The vExpert 2025 award is now open for applications!

vExpert is a way of recognizing people who are passionate about VMware and share their knowledge with others. It’s a pretty big deal in the VMware community.

How do I apply?

First, you’ll need to create a vExpert account and fill out your information. Then, you can apply for the award.

What do you have to do to get vExpert award?

Basically, you need to show that you’ve been actively helping others learn about VMware during 2024. Think about things like:

Writing blog posts about VMware
Speaking at events (about VMware technologies)
Making helpful videos (about VMware technologies)
Answering questions online (about VMware technologies), Reddit/Slack/Etc.
Sharing your code (about VMware technologies)
Helping out your local VMUG (VMware User Group)

Some things, like writing a book about VMware or being a VMUG leader, will automatically qualify you for the award. But you still need to apply!

Important dates:

January 10th: Applications close.
January 13th - February 7th: Voting period.
February 10th: Broadcom compliance starts.
February 21st (or before): vExperts announced!

Year 2023 in Review

Year 2023 has been quite busy for me. A lot of happened at work and in my personal life. In this post I would like to wrap up 2023 and share some insights into my plans for 2024.

Blog stats in 2023

My blog is still being visited, but is much less than in a previous years. Firstly I write less, but still I write it. This is most important part. What really struck me is how old post are still visited. Especially about configuration of HP c7000 enclosures. On-premises is still valid ;)

First stats are about users visited in 2023. 32000 Users is still nice amount of the visitors. Could be more, could be less. Most important part is that users are still visiting my blog.

Here you can see the top posts in 2023.

Most visited countries are United States, India and Germany.

The majority of users are using Windows as operating system, followed by macOS and Android.

No wonder that Chrome is dominating the browser section. Edge is trailing and Firefox is at the end.

You visit my blog mostly on Desktop (90%) and on mobile (9%).

Last statistic shows that still the most popular screen resolution is Full HD.

2023 Highlights

Book

I think the main highlight of 2023 was the release of my book. I wrote about it here Blog about releasing my book.

Work

At work it was definitely a year of GenAI. Everything was about it and we have heard about it everywhere. Today at the end of the Year it is not so uncommon to use Bard or ChatGPT or any other Large Language Models (LLMs) and they are part of our daily life now.

The other part of my work with my customers was mainly focus on using the cloud efficiently. Main initiatives focused on infrastructure right-sizing, applying committed use discounts (CUDs) at Google Cloud and using cloud efficiently. Other customers wanted to innovate in some really niche sections like mainframe. Other customers wanted to innovate in database space wanting to remove some expensive databases (mainly Oracle) with viable alternatives like PostgreSQL or AlloyDB from Google Cloud(PostgreSQL compatible Database).

Others

Other things where I spent some time this Year was focus on learning about Kubernetes, how can I use it in my homelab and how to get rid of virtual machines which consume resources and I need to patch them, manage them - the old school way.

Why Become VMware vExpert 2024 Edition

End of 2023 comes very close to an end. Many things happened this Year and for me most important event was release of my book which I blogged about Blog post about my book released in 2023. Apart from that I was super hyped about VMware Explorer 2023 in Barcelona GCVE Sessions at VMware Explore 2023and My VMware Explore 2023 Session about GCVE.

In this post I will write some tips to aspiring VMware vExperts who would like to apply in 2024.

VMware vExpert after 10 Years and why become one?

After being quite experienced VMware vExpert - 10 Years and counting, I would love to share some insights from my side and as well from VMware vExpert Pro side (we are the ones who are judging vExpert applications).

For me at the beginning vExpert program was mostly about getting free licenses from VMware. It evolved greatly over the years because program itself evolved quite heavily.

Apart from licenses I really enjoyed visibility and recognition amongst colleagues. Sometimes people asked me some very advanced VMware questions :D VMware vExpert doesn’t necessarily have to be know how expert about everything ;)

This days program means much more to me. It is the community where I can ask questions and exchange experience for evergrowing VMware footprint across on-premises and Clouds. It means as well that VMware shares with vExperts some upcoming news and webinars. I really love this part. Personally, for me program means I can mentor other colleagues and support them in their journey into the program.

How to get help with becoming VMware vExpert?

Especially as vExpert Pro I see a lot of applications and judge them according to the program requirements.

Here are some tips for you how to write successful vExpert application:

What you did for a community? Any events, evangelism, anything which you did outside of your job.
Please include any proof that you did it in form of URL. Event URL, VMUG appearance with link, link to your presentation, whatever URL. This helps a lot and saves my and your time.
Don’t include work activities. Work isn’t considered as community activities.

Book writing experience

Everything started 30.09.2021 when Yogesh contacted me on LinkedIn and he asked me if I would be willing to write Associate Cloud Engineer book.

I immediately responded with the only answer YES!. So a few numbers :D

From and including: Thursday, 30 September 2021 To, but not including Wednesday, 27 September 2023 Result: 727 days

The book writing process took almost two Years! I know it is a long period of time :)

As every Googler I love data 62,812,800 seconds 1,046,880 minutes 17,448 hours 727 days 103 weeks and 6 days 199.18% of a common year (365 days)

Challanges faced during writing the book

I cannot speak for Agnieszka but I’ll list some things which challenged me the most:

It took very long time to translate ACE certification requirements into book itself.
It was challenging to get into the rhythm of writing. As I am fully employed, have family and kids I was able to write only in the evenings. Sometimes you are so tired and need rest and you don’t have physical strength to sit in front of the computer.
Some chapters were very long. It took me month to write chapter about GCE itself. Same was with GKE which was splitted into two chapters. I nearly gave up during writing those chapters.
Book writing is not as easy as blog writing. On my blog I put articles once per week or month. During book writing I had to write every day. That makes a whole lot difference.
Since I am working at Google I never had to use Microsoft Office anymore. Now, I had to use Word to write a book. This was really painful experience and I never ever want to use Word anymore. Long live Google Docs and online editors.

Summary

vExpert Gift Review - NX6412 Maxtang EHL30

I finally found some time to built and test the vExpert Gift which I received at VMware Explore 2022. The unit is quite small, compact and is completely fanless set. Let’s dive into the review.

Prerequisites

In order to run this box we need RAM and Storage. If you wish to run VMware ESXi there is a need to have USB based NIC. Unfortunately, VMware doesn’t support Realtek based chipsets.

However, there is a VMware Fling. What are VMware Flings? Flings are apps and tools built by our engineers and community that are intended to be explored. as per VMware Fling website. tl;dr - use on your own risk because it may simply not work. It is available for VMware ESXI starting from version 6.7 up to 8. You can download it from VMware Fling website VMware USB Fling

Fortunately for use we have quite detailed specification of the hardware on both Intel and Maxtang website. The device is quite versatile as it has many USB ports, two NICs, is completely fanless and looks very heavy duty.

ESXi Installation

ESXi installation is quite straightforward. However, as mentioned about networking part we need to use USB NIC adapter. those drivers aren’t included in the ESXi ISO and you need to integrate the drivers into the ISO. Fortunately for us, on the webpage https://www.virten.net/2020/09/tips-for-using-usb-network-adapters-with-vmware-esxi/ it is written how can we create custom ISO.

Things that work

So pretty much once the vUSB Fling is installed we can use the box pretty much without any issues. Let’s move to the things which doesn’t work.

Things that work but are problematic

In my opinion some of the things which doesn’t work well can be challenging.

TPM - UEFI Secure Boot

First thing which I had to spent some time on wast TPM. Although in BIOS we can configure TPM from time to time the device hang at the screen.

You simply can’t do anything than go to BIOS and reset TPM. Normally I wouldn’t bother but in my case the device is located in a hanging server rack it can be a bit troublesome.

Unfortunately there is no remote management like iLO or DRAC.

vUSB Fling

At the time of the installation ~ mid November vUSB Fling didn’t work with ESXi 7.0.3 and I had to install ESXI 7.0.2. Minor thing but still. In my opinion this is “the price” we must pay for the inconvinience. As the vUSB Fling got ESXi 8.0.0 support we may expect longer supportability but we can’t take things for granted.

EVC Mode

When joining the device into existing cluster you must EVC Mode. In this case we would have to lower down EVC Mode to Intel Haswell generation. As I had in my main box Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU D-1518 Processor, to make both of them work in a cluster I would need to put them both into new EVC enabled cluster.

Processor

Comparing to my 7 Years Xeon, this processor is very slow. I tried to run the same VM on the Maxtang and boot process was much slower.

Summary

I would like to thank again VMware and Cohesity for the gift. I was so happy that I received it and I couldn’t wait to assemble the unit. After few days of using I’ve decided to install ESXi and test it.

Will the unit stay in my homelab? That is a big YES, but… It will be reinstalled and I will install Ubuntu on it and use it as a single node Kubernetes by using https://microk8s.io/.

As every Year VMware opened vExpert Applications and you can as well apply until January 14th 2022. There is more than two weeks more to apply so don’t wait until the deadline and visit VMware vExpert Portal.

What is VMware vExpert Award?

I wrote about VMware vExpert program for many Years now - you can check my old posts with tag vExpert vExpert posts.

Still it is worth to mention again what is vExpert award.

The vExpert Program is about giving back to the community beyond your day job. The program is not focused on certifications or how much you know about the technology. We are looking for technologists who are blogging, advocating VMware publicly or within your company, doing speaking sessions, book writing, code / script sharing or anything directly related to giving back to the community on topics around VMware.

Who can apply?

vExpert Second Round Apply and Why Should You do it?

It is this part of the Year where all the cool people which are in love in VMware products can again apply for a vExpert title. If you didn’t have a chance to do it in November 2019 now is you chance to do it.

How VMware vExpert program changed me?

I was blogging for about a two Years in a row about VMware products. I’ve read that there is this mythical program called vExpert. I knew that people who were vExperts were VMware gurus. Just to be there would be extremely important. I’ve asked my colleague Maciej Lelusz what to do. He told me everything back then I finally I’ve got the title.

Over the Years as vExpert what struck me the most was how helpful the vExperts are. They are always keen to help, exchange the knowledge and what is most important for me to simply enjoy VMware products.

vExpert Pro

vExpert Pro is a title to a certain people who are supposed to help existing vExperts and those who would like to apply for this prestigious title in terms of mentoring, advice or simply help.

Applying for a vExpert role and getting it isn’t always the same. Why? Simply because I’ve reviewed so many vExpert applications and some of them I had to reject.

Changes in VMware Certification Policy

Are you VMware certified? Are you in the need of recertification? If the answer to both of those questions is yes, then I have a piece of very good news for you.

Two days ago VMware announced a huge thing. They removed the need to recertify of VMware certification. They mention that they listen to the users and the users have spoken.

Personally, I think this is a very good step. Actually, I was going to renew my VCP which expires in March but now I don’t need to. I will renew it when my employer will require renewed skillset. Of course, if you need it simply recertify. For many VCP’s it is not mandatory to recertify every two years.

Great move VMware

I hope more vendors will follow this path.

Today I would like to share my experience with VMware Certified Advanced Professional 6 – Data Center Virtualization Deployment Exam (3V0-623).

It was a while ago when I took it (March 2017) but I think my experience will be valuable to you.

Blueprint

Like with any exam, VMware exams have blueprints which are very important to pass it. Before starting learning towards you have to familiarize yourself with its blueprint: Certification VMware Certified Advanced Professional 6 – Data Center Virtualization Deployment Exam (3V0-623).

Technical tips before taking the exam

Familiarize yourself with VMware Certification Platform Interface (Exam UI experience)
Try at least one Hands-on Lab with low resolution (1200 or smaller) to simulate real-world equipment
Try to put everything on full screen (browser, UI) and hide scenario

Build a lab where you can break stuff and fix it

My experience

Although I failed the exam ( I didn’t prepare to it at all) by just a few points I have to say that I enjoyed pretty many aspects of this exam. One pain point was a small monitor (19") with low resolution. All other aspects of the exam were great. The questions were accurate and presented real-world scenarios. Such exam or tasks should be at every VMware related job offer.

Farewell VMware – Welcome Public Cloud

Hello readers!

It is official now, after two wonderful Years at VMware I left the job as Senior Consultant. Before I will tell you more what I will do I would like to share a few words with you about my decision.

Why I left VMware and why VMware is cool!

I am working with VMware products from around 2009 which gives me around 8 Years of experience. Working with VMware products always gave me joy and provided for me and my family.

When I joined VMware two Years ago my dream came true, I was extremely happy and proud. I had a pleasure to work with the best experts in Europe and delivering great solutions to customers. I enjoyed working with every single customer and I love them.

As I mentioned at the beginning of the chapter I worked with VMware products more than 8 Years. Despite that my tasks changed and I learned new products and technologies I suddenly started to feel a little bit bored and I wanted to learn something new.

Last Year on Udemy there was a nice promo for courses and I thought that I might try AWS course. After spending 30$ for three courses (two of them about AWS) I decided to watch few chapters and play a bit with Public Cloud. When I deployed first virtual machines in EC2 I sat and thought WOW. It is so easy, so fast to deploy new virtual machines. No more worrying about hypervisor, management, storage and so on. I felt exactly the same when I did my first vMotion. Pure simple IT joy 🙂

After that, I took few AWS courses and I finished with AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate certificate.

My new job

As I was extremely happy with my job, duties, work&life balance I always replied to a job offer - “Thanks, but I am happy with VMware”. However, this one offer came and I decided to try it. I had nothing to lose and I got it. As of first of November, I joined company Consort CT where I work as Senior Solutions Cloud Architect.

In my new company, I will help customers with the journey to the Public Cloud. I still love VMware and its products and this passion will still be expressed on my blog.

How to install Apple macOS in VMware Workstation on Windows

macOS is a quite popular operating system. I never had an opportunity to work with it prior joining to VMware. From my point of view, Apple makes brilliant hardware and software (with one exception of Finder in macOS). At the moment I am running Windows 10 as a Bootcamp and I am quite happy how it performs. However, there are situations when one would like to evaluate the different operating system. Let it be any Linux flavor or an even exotic system like BSD you can all run them in VMware Workstation. What about the Apple macOS? Unfortunately in VMware Workstation running on Windows by default you can’t run Apple macOS.

Today I will show you how to install Apple macOS in VMware Workstation on Windows.

Before doing any changes please make a backup and remember that changes done aren’t supported by VMware.

In order to run macOS in VMware Workstation on Windows, we will need two things: macOS iso and VMware Workstation Unlocker.

How to convert macOS dmg to iso

To convert macOS dmg file under Windows we will need a tool dmg2img.

Copy macOS dmg file to dmg2img folder.
Open command prompt and type

`1`	`dmg2img macOSfilename.dmg desiredISOname.iso`

That’s it 🙂

Install VMware Workstation Unlocker

VMware Workstation Unlocker fixes/improves few of missing features in VMware Workstation on Windows:

Fix vmware-vmx and derivatives to allow Mac OS X to bootFix vmwarebase .dll or .so to allow Apple to be selected during VM creation
Fix vmwarebase .dll or .so to allow Apple to be selected during VM creation
Fix libvmkctl.so on ESXi 6 to allow use with vCenter
Download a copy of the latest VMware Tools for OS

Probably there are some reasons whyVMware decided to remove macOS compatibility in Windows VMware Workstation. Anyway, let’s **enhance **our VMware Workstation with new capabilities.

Download VMware Workstation Unlocker from GitHub https://github.com/DrDonk/unlocker.
Once downloaded extract it.
Run command prompt with administrative privileges.
Run win-install.bat script.
After few seconds VMware Workstation will be patched.
When you will create new virtual machine macOS will be available.
We must edit virtual machine configuration file vmx and add following entry smc.version = "0".
Once added we can run macOS in VMware Workstation in Windows.

My first VMware Anniversary

One Year ago

Exactly one Year ago 3.09.2015 I arrived to VMware Office in Munich to start my job as Consultant with VMware. I wrote about it in post I am VMware – my new job as Consultant with VMware. Today I would like to share with you few thoughts after first Year as it is My first VMware Anniversary.

First three Months

At the beginning like in pretty much every company there was a newcomer training where you hear about whole VMware portfolio. This is good, because if you had experience only with part of VMware software stack you can easily learn more about other offering. Of course you will not remember everything after half of the Year, but at least something will remain in your head.

Next week I was sent to join big project where I was responsible for vSphere part. I was scared to death if I will manage to help there with my knowledge, but fortunately with help of all new very friendly Colleagues I managed to do my work.

Six Months+

In my all previous jobs after six Months I was pretty much aware of all processes, I knew whole environment and I felt comfortable with all my duties. With VMware every day I am learning new stuff, I am discovering new sub-domains where cool stuff is located. After six Months I felt quite comfortable with all the tools, I didn’t have to ask so much around to get my stuff done.

One Year and My first VMware Anniversary

I still remember when I came to VMware Office in Suit as newbie. I was really scared but as well excited. Today exactly one Year later I am still excited to with every day duties, with all work I do for Customers and constant learning I do every day.

I am looking forward to work even longer for VMware and be_TOMORROW 😉

Jako osoba która od ładnych kilku lat bawi się w IT przeżyłem i widziałem wiele. Najbardziej lubiałem konferencje bo po pierwsze był zazwyczaj to płatny dzień pracy, a po drugie możliwość poznania nowych technologi i nawiązania nowych kontaktów. Evangelist Path

I am VMware – my new job as Consultant with VMware

In this post I would like to announce that as of 01.09.2015 I am joining VMware in Germany and I will work as Consultant in DACH (D - Deutschland, A - Austria, CH - Switzerland) region. I am very excited about this fact, because for me I can honestly say. My dream came true!

I am working with VMware products several Years already and for me it was always pleasure. I was dreaming that someday I will have proper knowledge and VMware would hire me. This Year it finally happened. I will join PSO (Professional Services) Team in Unterschleißheim, Germany, and as Consultant I will be travelling most of the time.

Besides joining VMware as such I am excited to start working as Consultant with various customers which allow me to grow and learn exponentially. As soon as I will finish my first project which will suit into VCDX frames I will start my VCDX journey.

VMware recruitment

Somewhere in April my colleague from Work was approached by VMware Recruiter to offer him new job. He said that he will skip this one and offered myself as possible candidate. I was immediately contacted by recruiter. We discussed role, my experience and my expectations. After two or three days I was asked to travel to Munich / Unterschleißheim for F2F Interview.

Face to Face Recruitment

I have somewhere about 8 Years of IT experience and I attended plenty of Interviews. From the Interview itself you can tell a lot about company, your future Manager and your new place of work. In my case I really enjoyed Interview. Questions were fair and really aligned to role and I knew immediately that this is the place I want to work.

Telephone Interview

After week or so next Interview was scheduled. It was Architect from my future PSO Team and again I enjoyed Interview. I enjoyed questions - they were aligned to role and allowed me to show future Colleague how I think and what I would do in some situations.

Offer

After several days I was informed that I got the job and I was the luckiest person in the World.

Responsibilities

This is what I know so far from VMware job offer and as well from my new Manager.

Assess client’s desktop/server/network/storage infrastructure and IT management processes
Plan large SDDC infrastructure roll-outs and migrations with a particular focus on cloud management and automation.
Demonstrate thought leadership in cloud computing and virtualization and their application
Independently conduct small to medium engagements with customers
Maintain current knowledge of the entire VMware SDDC product stack and Cloud concepts
Assist in the development of standard reusable VMware “productized” consulting service offerings and enhancements to our methodology, including definition of tasks, deliverables and standard estimates

What’s Next?

As you know with every job beginning is quite difficult and I don’t expect mine to be different. Learning new tools, meeting new people and learning how things are done in new place. I will try as much as I will have spare time to write posts. I hope that with every new customer I will work with, I will have some interesting things to share with my readers on my blog. So stay tuned and give me a bit of time to organize things and you will be rewarded with even better content 🙂

Współpraca ta miała polegać na tym, że eksperci z interviewme.pl utworzą ze mną CV i list motywacyjny a ja w zamian za tą usługę opiszę niezależnie od finalnego wyniku proces tworzenia CV. Byłem w zasadzie zadowolony z aktualnego CV i nie planowałem żadnych zmian, jednak odpisałem do Pana Piotra i przystałem na jego propozycję.

Rozmowa wstępna

Z racji tego, że mieszkam i pracuję za granicą Pan Piotr Sosnowski z którym współpracowałem przy tworzeniu nie mogłem spotkać się osobiście i dlatego korzystaliśmy z komunikatora Skype. Podczas pierwszej rozmowy przedstawiłem się i opisałem swoją aktualną pracę. Przed samą rozmową wysłałem oczywiście swoje aktualne CV do Pana Piotra tak aby miał on szansę przeczytać o moim aktualnym doświadczeniu.

Podczas pierwszej rozmowy został przeprowadzony ze mną wywiad odnośnie mojej aktualnej pracy oraz poprzednich. Pytania zadawane od razu sugerowały, że jest specjalistą w swojej dziedzinie. Co prawda nie migrował data center jak ja czy nie zna detali dotyczących mechanizmu High Availability w VMware ale wyeksponował najważniejsze osiągnięcia i umiejętności, tak aby CV było atrakcyjne.

Poza standardowymi pytaniami odnośnie CV rozmawialiśmy jeszcze o mojej przyszłości, kim chciał bym zostać w przyszłości. Nie była to ot taka sobie rozmowa “po próżnicy” lecz również część przygotowująca do napisania sekcji “Cele Zawodowe”.

Budowanie CV

Proces budowania CV nie jest procesem prostym i niestety interviewme nie zrobi za Ciebie wszystkiego. Musisz nastawić się na to, że aby otrzymać dobre CV z którego będziesz zadowolony / zadowolona będziesz musiał włożyć w CV trochę pracy. Piszę to ze swojego punktu widzenia - jako specjalisty z branży IT. Być może jeżeli jesteś na początku kariery czy masz mniej złożone obowiązki niż ja to proces tworzenia będzie trwał krócej i będzie prostszy.

Mimo wszystko licz na to, że zespół interviewme ma ogromną wiedzę i na pewno pomogą Ci zrobić wymarzone CV czy list motywacyjny.

Zanim otrzymałem swoje CV minęło 2 lub 3 iteracje i wymiany e-maili. Pan Piotr bardzo pomagał mi przekształcić czasami dziwacznie brzmiące zdania czy stwierdzenia na zrozumiały język. Gdy nie wiedziałem jak napisać jakieś zdanie po prostu w kilku słowach pisałem co chciałbym uzyskać poprzez daną sentencję a Pan Piotr w magiczny sposób to pisał.

Interfejs użytkownika

Już sama strona zachęca swoją przejrzystością i lekkością do skorzystania z usług interviewme. Działa bardzo szybko i wygląda naprawdę schludnie. W moim przypadku od razu przypadła mi do gustu. Zresztą jak sami wiecie - jak Cię widzą, tak cię piszą 🙂

Interfejs podzielony jest na kilka kilka sekcji w których wprowadzamy informacje o sobie. Interfejs działa bardzo szybko i jest naprawdę intuicyjny i korzysta się z niego bardzo przyjemnie.

CV

Na wstępie zacznę od tego, że mamy do wyboru ponad trzydzieści wersji kolorystycznych CV i ponad dwadzieścia wzorów listów motywacyjnych. Wszystkie szablony wyglądają schludnie i bardzo profesjonalnie. Poza samymi szablonami można dodać klauzulę poufności wymaganą przez polskie przedsiębiorstwa lub utworzyć własną.

Poza standardowymi sekcjami jak edukacja, certyfikaty czy umiejętności można załączyć również zdjęcie czy dane osobowe. Wspominałem również o możliwości ustawienia kolejności wedle naszego uznania?

Wszystko jest bardzo elastyczne, działa bardzo szybko i przede wszystkim wygląda świetnie.

List motywacyjny

Jestem osobą dla której napisanie listu motywacyjnego to droga przez mękę. Czasami nawet nie aplikowałem na niektóre z ofert pracy tylko dlatego, że wymagane było wysłanie listu motywacyjnego. Osobiście uważam również, że wymaganie listu motywacyjnego do aplikacji jest przeżytkiem i nie powinno być wymagane na niektóre stanowiska.

Po krótkim wstępie chciałem opisać list motywacyjny, który został dla mnie przygotowany. Bardzo ciężko jest mi opisać pozytywne wrażenie po pierwszym przeczytaniu listu - był tak dobry. Osobiście nigdy nie był bym w stanie napisać czegoś tak wspaniałego. Teraz z przyjemnością będę wysyłał list motywacyjny utworzony przez Pana Piotra.

Konsultacje dot. kariery

Jak już napisałem na wstępie miałem również przyjemność rozmawiać z Panem Piotrem o mojej karierze. Po rozmowie z Panem Piotrem zostałem utwierdzony, że mój plan na karierę jest jak najbardziej ok i myślę, że takie konsultacje dla osób szukających miejsca dla siebie w przyszłości mogą okazać się nieocenione.

Ogólne wrażenie

Jeżeli dotarłeś drogi czytelniku / czytelniczko do końca dosyć długiego wpisu od razu widać jaka jest moja opinia na temat współpracy z interviewme.pl. Jeżeli jesteś osobą która tak jak ja ma problemy z utworzeniem swojego CV czy listu motywacyjnego to zdecydowanie polecam skorzystanie z usług specjalistów z zespołu interviewme. My VCAP5-DCD Exam Experience – VDCD550

After months of studying I am proud to announce that Yesterday (24.04.2015) I passed VMware Certified Advanced Professional 5 - Data Center Design (VDCD550).

First attempt

I scheduled my first exam somewhere in February and I didn’t pass it. I manage to get 240 points out of 500 where passing margin is 300 points. I was quite disappointed but after exam I knew how the beast looks like. For the person like me where I don’t do designs by daily basis I had to admit that score wasn’t that bad but I still failed it. I was confident that I am capable of passing this exam. I scheduled immediately next exam right after Easter ( I believe it was 10.04.2015) but I rescheduled it at the beginning of April because I already knew that I didn’t have time to study.

Exam feedback

I think exam isn’t that bad because it really test your designing skills. However I would say in real world doing same things like I did during exam would be much easier. Why is that someone might ask? It is like that, because in real word design / project you can always (I would even say - should) ask questions to clarify some doubts. During exam you don’t have that luxury and you have to relay on your knowledge and experience.

There were as well some small things which were unclear to me - you don’t know exam GUI and you have to work with a while to make it work. If you are used to Visio you will be disappointed with exam tool, because it works much more different.

Study resources

I will share some of my thoughts about exam itself in next paragraph. In this one I will focus on resources I used to study and which one were the best to use.

VCAP5-DCD Official Cert Guide (with DVD): VMware Certified Advanced Professional 5 - Data Center Design written by Paul McSharry. Very useful book and I am really glad that I bought it. Without it I don’t think I would pass this exam.
VCAP5-DCD Official Cert Guide (with DVD): VMware Certified Advanced Professional 5 - Data Center Design written by Paul McSharry Premium Edition. It has three full practice exams and enhanced practice test features. Although they were written for version 5.1, but still can be useful.
Designing VMware Infrastructure course from Pluralsight by Scott Lowe. Fantastic course! It is a must for you if you want to pas this exam. For the person like me who didn’t have so much exposure to projects and design this course was salvation. Scott is simple words explains what is design and guides you from conceptual design to physical design.
VMware vSphere Design written by Forbes Guthrie, Scott Lowe and Kendrick Coleman. I used this book during studies to VCAP5-DCA exam and it is even more useful to use it to learn towards VCAP5-DCD.

VMware best practices I don’t remember how many of those have I read, but trust me they are very important. It is hard to say which one are the most important, but I will list some of them: vDS, Storage, HA and many more.

What’s Next? Am I architect now?

Architect - hmm, I definitely I am not there yet. I would say that passing VCAP5-DCD exam opened my eyes for so many things - it is like after you pass VCP and you realize how many things you don’t know yet. I have to admit though, that even learning towards DCD exam is very good journey. You start to think differently not only from VMware point of view but also from different areas. You learn to ask questions - what if?

Not to mention job interviews, you jump in with fresh DCD knowledge and you shoot words like (risk, constraint, conceptual design and many more) and you got the job.

Final words

I am really happy that I started challenge called VMware Certified Advanced Professional 5 - Data Center Design. It took me a while to be where I am now, but hey one Year ago I was a simple guy with VCP 5 and now I have two VCAPs! Frack Yeah 🙂

2014 Year review

As year 2014 is almost finished I would like to share with you with my 2014 review and plans for next Year. I had quite a lot of achievements and success stories and I have as well a lot of plans for next Year.

2014 Review

Work

At work there was quite a lot happening in 2014. I was acting as Track Lead for VMware and Windows in Datacenter migration project. I was responsible for successful migration of servers with and applications to new location ensuring zero downtime ensuring availability of services. Datacenter was successfully migrated to new location and I am very proud of that.

Blog

In 2014 I focused more pure VMware technologies rather than jumping from Windows, Linux and VMware. Somewhere in the middle of the Year I opened FaceBook page and Google Plus page and I unified logos and fonts on blog.

Since I started to work in European Central Bank I worked with many skilled and educated IT Professionals. As I wrote in previous part - I am quite ambitious and after speaking with Artur about certification I have a dream to become VMware Certified Design Expert. 2015 Plans

Work

You never know what will happen in future, but after visiting VMworld in Barcelona https://www.wojcieh.net/vmworld-2014-barcelona-day-0/ automation will be most important topic next Year. I agree with that approach completely because quite often people spent to much time fighting fire instead of preventing fire. Automation will help focus people on finding new solutions and exploring new possibilities.

Blog

I will not stop blogging - that is for sure. I love when I got positive feedback from readers in comments, twitting and messages. I will still try to deliver good quality content and focus on work and education related tasks and I am pretty sure you will enjoy it.

vExpert

Following last year I focused on providing good and useful blog post about VMware technology. I didn’t have so much time to spend on VMware forums as I did previous Year and I regret that. I already applied for 2015 vExpert and I hope I will be rewarded this prestigious award again.

Education

Cloud and Automation. These two phrases will dominate my education in 2015. As you might know VMware / market pushes very hard to be Software Defined and heavy automated. If you want to be top on IT market you have to have those skills. vSphere stack is not enough if you speak with companies / recruiters so if you want to dictate terms you must have special knowledge.

Besides that I still want to pursue VCDX certification and missing milestone is one exam - VMware Certified Advanced Professional 5 – Data Center Design. I plan to pass it in February and of course I will share my exam experience with you. I hope that I will start VCDX preparation somewhere after summer if everything will go as I plan it.

Last but not least is TOGAF® 9 Certified - level 1 and 2. As you might know I would like to become an Architect and I believe that this training and certification will help me achieve my goal. Last Wednesday after two months of preparation I am happy and proud to inform you that I passed **VMware Certified Advanced Professional 5 – Data Center Administration (VCAP5-DCA) **exam.

Exam preparation

In my opinion nothing better prepares you to this exam better than testing each and every one item from Blueprint. In order to pass it you have to know things to do it fast and without errors. As other bloggers mention in their exam experience, your biggest enemy is time. Believe me, that you will not have time to search documentation if you don’t know where exactly it is.

Blueprint! Blueprint! Blueprint! Read it, understand it and implement it so you are confident you will be able to do it during exam. I used Chris Wahl Study Sheet where you can easily track your learning progress.

Exam strategy

As other bloggers mentioned in their study guides / exam experience there are some hints which can help you to go through exam easier.

Use vCenter console when possible. I didn’t even fire up RDP connection to any of the servers.
Login in advance to ESXi host so you can save some time afterwards.
Write down IP’s of vCenter, ESXi hosts so you don’t have to switch between windows to look for them.
Read questions carefully and if you don’t know answer immediately skip it. You can return to your previous questions - don’t waste your valuable time. It might be not true for some of the tasks where you might have some dependency on previous one. Imagine that you are asked to implement PVLAN, NetFlow or Port Mirroring. You can’t do it without vDS.
I created table on Pearson notepad with all questions where I marked my progress. By doing this you can really easily track where you are and what is still to do.

After three hours I had 16 tasks finished and crossed out of the list and I was able to finish other three task plus two of them partially.

Summary

As I wrote at the beginning, I am very happy that I passed. My score was not the highest one 327/500 but it doesn’t matter. Pass is a pass!

After the time I spent on studying I am happy to slow down, I will not start my Home Lab for few more days and I will take small break. After that I will start preparation to VMware Certified Advanced Professional - Data Center Design (VCAP5-DCD).

What’s next for me in education in 2014 – VMware Education

In this post I would like to share with you my plans for VMware Education for 2014.

Where am I now with VMware Education?

I passed VMware Certified Professional 5 – Data Center Virtualization certification in December 2013. In November 2013 I passed several VMware Certified Associate certifications: Data Center Virtualization, Workforce Mobility and Cloud.

Where I would like to be?

As almost every IT guy I have long-term goals and short-term one. Today I would like to share with you my short-term goal.

In 2014 I would like to pass VMware Certified Advanced Professional 5 - Data Center Administration (VCAP5-DCA) certification. To be honest as you read this post I am attending course VMware vSphere: Optimize and Scale [V5.1]to better prepare myself to this exam.

If I pass VCAP5-DCA certification I will push really quickly towards VCAP5-DCD.

VMware books – what is worth to read

One of the best books I read so far. It helps you to understand how to design VMware infrastructure that works smoothly, is easy to manage but works solid even during serious outages. One of the best books I ever read. I won it on one website in contest and I am really happy that I read it. I used it to prepare myself to VCP5-DCV certification. VMware vSphere 5.1 Clustering Deepdive

If you think that you know High Availability, DRS and clustering you are wrong 😉 By reading this book you will go into deep dark areas of vpxd.cfg, you will be so confused after you will read all mystery behind DRS algorithms, but at the end you will enjoy it - just like with all tough exercise. This isn’t easy book, and I don’t recommend it at the beginning of journey with VMware virtualization, but I strongly suggest to consume it if you are hunger for deep, fat knowledge. This is a really happy post. 09.12.2013 I passed VMware Certified Professional 5 - Data Center Virtualization exam with decent score 439/500.

It was a really long journey to pass it. I wrote about it in my previous post https://www.wojcieh.net/upgrade-to-vcp5-dcv-finally-possible/ about the delay in VCP5-DCV certification.

VMware Certified Professional 5 - Data Center Virtualization materials

The Official VCP5 Certification Guide from VMware press written by Bill Ferguson http://www.amazon.com/Official-Certification-Guide-VMware-Press/dp/0789749319 This is your best way to pass VCP. I find this book really interesting because it goes exactly through Exam Blueprint.
Mastering VMware vSphere 5 written by Scott Lowe http://www.amazon.com/Mastering-VMware-vSphere-Scott-Lowe/dp/0470890800is another really great book to increase knowledge about VMware.
VMware Mock Exam - This is real life exam with real questions. You can pass it until you hit 100%. Best idea is to select one or two questions with wrong answers so you can practice it all along. Link to VMware Mock Exam is here
VMware guides are as well quite useful. You can find all documentation here
VMware Configuration Maximus - comparing to VCP4-DCV there is less focus on this topic. Don’t skip it because you will have to know some things and there will be questions on the exam. Besides that, if you are VMware Expert you should know what you are doing 🙂
Course material - not so needed. If you did VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage you will not pass after course only. Course is basic foundation to VCP knowledge but you need more resources

If you would like to reschedule an exam that was originally scheduled for July 19, 2013, you will need to cancel your appointment, and gain VMware authorization at vmware.com/certification before you are able to reschedule your exam appointment with Pearson VUE.

If you used an exam voucher when scheduling your original exam, you will be able to reuse it when rescheduling.

Exam

The exam is done online via PearsonVUE website. It has 50 questions and it takes 75 minutes. It is delivered in secure browser window where you are not allowed to copy content or click mouse, but who needs it 😉

VMware Hat-Trick

I took all three exams and I have to say even though they are entry-level I had to go through eLearning material. It was valid especially for VMware Horizon and VMware vCloud Director. I am not using those products by daily basis yet, so I really had to focus.

Upgrade to VCP5-DCV – finally possible

I am so so happy. Finally, I am enrolled to VMware vSphere: What’s New [V5.1] online course which will allow me to go for VCP5-DCV certification.

Lazy a**

Well, I have to admit. I was the lazy one. When I passed my VCP4-DCV, almost four or five months later vSphere 5.0 came out and I was eligible to pass it without training. I thought - well I will do it later, there is no need to do it right away.

I was so wrong!

Two years later

So here I am two years later still holding my VCP4-DCV certification. I cursed myself so many times during those years that I didn’t go for “easy” upgrade.

“Easy” - in terms of requirements for the exam.

So - I just got confirmation (blessing and payment coverage) from my employer that I can attend online course VMware vSphere: What’s New [V5.1].

Right after it (two or three weeks), I will schedule a VCP5-DCV exam and I will work very hard to pass the exam.

Never ever procrastinate - or be lazy in short words

Lesson learned for me. After I will pass VCP5-DCV (of course there is no other choice 🙂 ) I will participate in all upgrades. Not only for VMware - Microsoft is taken into consideration as well. But first things first.

Status update – 2013

Blog

Minęło już trochę czasu odkąd pisałem coś na blogu. Spowodowane było to przede wszystkim zmianą pracy (nie pracuje już w UPM - a szkoda bo była to póki co najlepsza moja praca) jak i miejscem zamieszkania.

Praca

Obecnie pracuję na stanowisku System Engineer Windows & VMware 3rd lvl w firmie outsorcingowej Serco w Europejskim Banku Centralnym we Frankfurcie.

Ze zmianą pracy połaczona była przeprowadzka za granicę. Sami możecie wyobrazić sobie jaki chaos panuje w mieszkaniu (zarówno nowym jak i starym) podczas przeprowadzek. Na chwile obecną mogę powiedzieć, że w domu już jest prawie wszystko zrobione i można znaleźć chwilę dla siebie.

Co robię w pracy?Jak sama nazwa stanowiska wskazuje - zajmuję się (podobnie jak w UPM) serwerami VMware i Windows. Nastąpiła jednak zmiana bo awansowałem na trzeci poziom wsparcia.

Dodatkowo jestem w projekcie migracji datacenter do nowej lokalizacji ECB http://www.ecb.eu/ecb/premises/html/index.en.htmlco samo w sobie jest ekscytujące - świetna zabawa i dużo nauki gwarantowane.

Plany na przyszłość

Przede wszystkim więcej pisać, będą wpisy po angielsku, oraz powrót do nauki (upgrade do VCP5, nauka Windows Server 2012).

Po co mi nowe CV?

Opis mojego CV skłonił mnie do napisania profejsonalnego CV - sam nie posiadam takiej weny aby stworzyć takie CV więc zdecydowałem się na wariant płatny. Wybrałem polski odpowiednik czyli Architekci Kariery.

Tworzenie w bólach?!?

Jest w sumie bezbolesny - wybieramy stosowną pozycję - CV + tłumaczenie bądź CV+LM i tłumaczenie i płacimy. Zostaje nam przypisany numer zamówienia i jesteśmy poproszeni o załączenie aktualnego CV. Ja nie załączyłem więc zadzwoniła do mnie Pani z prośbą o przedstawienie aktualnego stanowiska oraz branży.

Na następny dzień zadzwoniła Pani przypisana do mojego zamówienia. Po krótkiej rozmowie dowiedziałem się, że Pani ma doświadczenie w pisaniu CV z branży IT więc bardzo się ucieszyłem. Moja sugestia odnośnie zrobienia nasiadówki - jakiś Skype czy coś w ten deseń została odrzucona. No nic,w końcu rozmawiam z profesjonalistką 🙂

Po przesłaniu CV Pani zasugerowała oczywiście skrócenie CV i finalnie udało się zrobić CV na dwie strony. Natomiast samo tworzenie CV oceniam negatywnie - mimo, że zapłaciłem ponad 200 zł (CV + tłumaczenie na niemiecki) to ja musiałem być stroną aktywną - bardzo mi się to nie podobało. Pierwsza wersja CV (tłumaczona z angielskiego) wyglądała jak CV jakiegoś serwisanta sprzętu, który dorabia administracją 🙂 Jak zobaczyłem tą wersję to zacząłem żałować, że nie skorzystałem z innej oferty (miałem jeszcze do wyboru Panią Beatę Rzepkę ze strony http://www.coachingkariery.pl/).

Po pierwsze jakość tłumaczenia angielski - polski bardzo kiepska. Nie wszystko było przetłumaczone, a opis moich kompetencji śmieszny. Nie wyglądało by to tak źle jeśli Pani porozmawiałaby ze mną, wypytałaby o moje obowiązki itd. I do tego CV w moim najbardziej znienawidzonym kolorze - BORDOWY. Po spędzeniu ponad dwóch godzin na poprawkach udało się wypracować jako taki dokument.

Najwięcej niedosytu wciąż miałem w sekcjach “Profil Zawodowy” oraz “Kluczowe Kompetencje”. Liczyłem, że “specjalista”, który CV trzaska codziennie zrobi to naprawdę z rozmachem i z jajem. Niestety wyszło tak, że sam musiałem siedzieć i dumać co tam napisać.

Poprosiłem Panią również o stworzenie jak to nazwałem “zdań kilerów” po których rekruter od razu chciałby mnie zatrudnić. Utworzone w bólu zdanie od razu wywaliłem 🙂 Nie chciałem, żeby rekruter się roześmiał - może to tak miało zadziałać - o tego zapamiętam 😀

Czy jestem zadowolony?

I tak i nie - najbardziej brakowało mi zaangażowania osoby pracującej nad moim CV. Ja rozumiem, że dla Pani to może być kolejne CV pryszczatego informatyka w wyciągnietych jeansach i koszulce, ale ja za tą “przyjemność” zapłaciłem. Jestem zadowolony z faktu skrócenia CV, utworzenia nowej szaty graficznej oraz przetłumaczenia CV na niemiecki.

Negatywne odczucia to potraktowanie mnie jak kolejne zlecenie, brakowało nawet małej interakcji ze mną. Kolejną rzeczą, którą musiałem sam zrobić to opis stanowisk w konkretnych firmach. Jak się okazało później przy wysyłaniu CV rekruterzy chcą te informacje - u mnie zostały całkowicie pominięte.

HP BladeSystem Administration: c-Class – wrażenia po szkoleniu

W ostatnim tygodniu miałem przyjemność uczestniczyć w szkoleniu HP BladeSystem Administration: c-Class przeprowadzanym w Centrum Edukacyjnym HP w Warszawie.

W tym roku miałem dosyć ciężki wybór szkolenia ponieważ Compendium i Combidata wprowadziły szkolenia z tabletami. Niestety w Compendium szkolenia HP nie łapały się na tablet. Biorąc pod uwagę swój rozwój wybrałem jednak szkolenie HP BladeSystem Administration: c-Class.

Na szkoleniu chciałem przede wszystkim poznać serwery Blade i usystematyzować posiadaną już wiedzę.

Samo szkolenie poruszało tematy serwerów z serii ML, Blade, obudowy c3000 i c7000, serwery pełne i połówkowe, konfiguracja Onboard Administratora, iLO i wiele wiele innych. Plan szkolenia można zobaczyć tutaj http://h41156.www4.hp.com/education/details.aspx?cc=pl&ll=pl&id=8700.

Szkolenie mogę ocenić dobrze, jest dobrze napisane i dla osoby, która nie miała styczności z serwerami HP Blade jak najbardziej się przyda. Dla osób, które miały już do czynienia z Blade szkolenie może okazać się za proste i mogą być niezadowolone. Dla tych osób ciekawszym szkoleniem może być Implementing HP ProLiant ML/DL/SL & HP BladeSystem.

Minusy szkolenia w mojej opinii to:

w ogóle nie przygotowane laboratorium wirtualne - pomieszane IP, nie działające połaczenia
brak ćwiczeń na serwerach fizycznych - niestety takie są trendy

prowadzacy zrobił z nami dodatkowy moduł i ćwiczenia z Virtual Connecta - super sprawa

VMworld Europe 2011 Kopenhaga

Już w następnym tygodniu we wtorek zaczyna się bardzo ważne wydarzenie dla wszystkich osób z IT a mianowicie konferencja VMworld w Kopenhadze.

Wdrażanie Mozilla Firefox w Active Directory

Tak jak obiecałem w poprzednim wpisie o wdrażaniu Google Chrome poprzez GPO dzisiaj chciałbym pokazać w jaki sposób zainstalować w domenie przeglądarkę Mozilla Firefox.

Pomyslałem, że łatwiej będzie jak zobaczycie filmik na którym zaprezentuję instalację Firefoxa.

Z Firefoxem jest trochę kiepsko jeżeli chodzi o paczkę instalacyjna msi. Niestety Mozilla jeszcze jest daleko w tyle za Chrome nie wspominając o IE.

Póki co paczki msi od Mozilli nie ma ale są sposoby aby ją znaleźć:

Niestety na tym polu Mozilla również dała ciała. Oficjalnych szablonów administracyjnych nie ma, są jakieś do ściągnięcia ale z czasów Firefoxa 2.x co przy obecnej wersji 5 może stwarzać problemy. Póki co zarządzanie Firefoxem zostawiam na kolejny wpis bo sprawa jest dosyć skomplikowana.

Wow!

Taki okrzyk wydałem z siebie w centrum egzaminacyjnym po zdaniu w dniu dzisiejszym egzaminu VMware VCP 410. Szczerze powiedziawszy po odbyciu kursu VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage [V4.1] myślałem, że będę dobrze przygotowany do tego egzaminu.

W dniu dzisiejszym dowiedziałem się jak wiele rzeczy jeszcze muszę doczytać i potestować. Egzamin według mnie jest bardzo trudny i trzeba mieć bardzo dużo doświadczenia z VMware oraz szeroko powiedzianym storage. Mimo iż jeszcze muszę uzupełnić luki w wiedzy bardzo cieszę się z sukcesu i będąc na fali zabieram się za kolejny egzamin - tym razem Microsoft MCITP. Jeżeli chcielibyście dowiedzieć się z jakich materiałów korzystałem to napiszcie o tym w komentarzach.

Wdrażanie Google Chrome w Active Directory

Dosyć niedawno przeglądarka ze stajni Google - Chrome została uaktualniona o wersję Enterprise i szablony administracyjne oraz paczkę instalacyjną w formacie msi.

W dzisiejszym wpisie przedstawię wdrożenie Google Chrome w domenie Active Directory przy użyciu GPO wraz z szablonami administracyjnymi.

Wymagania wstępne:

Kontroler domeny
Klient
Paczka msi Google Chrome do ściągnięcia http://www.google.com/chrome/eula.html?msi=true
Pobranie szablonów administracyjnych http://dl.google.com/dl/edgedl/chrome/policy/policy_templates.zip

Środowisko wdrożeniowe w moim przypadku to dwie maszyny wirtualne. Kontroler domeny oparty na Windows Server 2008 R2 oraz klient podłączony do domeny - Windows 7 Enterprise.

Poziom funkcjonalny domeny i lasu to Windows Server 2008 R2. Na kontrolerze domeny zainstalowałem dodatkowo usługę DHCP a jej klientem jest Windows 7.

Wdrożenie

Aby ułatwić wszystkim ewentualne testy zrobiłem krótkiego videocasta gdzie wszystko powinno być widoczne czarnona białym.

Jak sami widzieliście proces ten nie różni się zbytnio od dystrybucji innego oprogramowania.

Odnośnie samego Google Chrome to polecam zapoznać się z dobrym dokumentem opisującym krok po kroku instalację Chrome http://www.google.com/support/a/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=187202.

Witam,

dzisiejszy wpis jest krótki, lecz treściwy.

Potrzebowałem zresetować hasło do iLO (Integrated Lights-Out) na serwerze HP do którego hasło niestety się zapodziało.

Nowa praca – witamy w UPM

Na blogu od dłuższego czasu straszna posucha. Bardzo mi z tym faktem źle ale niestety nie mogę na to za wiele poradzić.

Przyczyną tego faktu jest to iż od grudnia 2010 zmieniłem pracę i obecnie pracuję w firmie UPM-Kymenne.

Zmiana pracy wiązała się oczywiście z przeprowadzką do nowego miasta, którym aktualnie jest Kraków.

W UPM pracuję na stanowisku IT Infrastructure Expert - Servers & Storage na którym będę wspierał głownie systemy Windows Server.

Bardzo się cieszę z nowej pracy i mam nadzieję, że pozwoli mi ona rozwinąć nowe umiejętności.

A już niedługo podsumowanie roku 2010 - stay tuned!

Witam Was drodzy czytelnicy.

Dzisiejszy wpis jest z kategorii chwalących się, ale takie też muszą być od czasu do czasu 😉

Otóż dnia 04.08.2010 zdałem ostatni egzamin wymagany do uzyskania tytułu Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer: Security.

Jestem z tego faktu bardzo zadowolony, tym bardziej iż ostatni egzamin (70-298) jest według mnie jakimś horrorem. Osoby, które zdają egzaminy Microsoft wiedzą jak długie potrafią być pytania.

W tym egzaminie Microsoft przeszedł sam siebie. Niestety nie mogę opisac dokładnie co i jak ale uwierzcie mi jest ciężko.

Założony plan na rok 2010 wykonałem juz w 75% - zdałem następujące egzaminy:

70-293 - Planning and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Network Infrastructure
70-294 - Planning, Implementing, and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Active Directory Infrastructure
70-298 - Designing Security for a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Network

Do końca roku 2010 mam zaplanowany jeszcze jeden egzamin - 70-649 TS: Upgrading Your MCSE on Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008, Technology Specialist.

Jeżeli jeszcze uda się w pracy załapać na egzamin to pewnie wybiore któryś z egzaminów:

70-622 - Pro: Microsoft Desktop Support ? ENTERPRISE
70-403 - TS: System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008, Configuring
70-680 - TS: Windows 7, Configuring

Niestety nie jestem pewny czy uda mi sie załapać w pracy na kurs VMware aby zdać egzamin VCP.

W planach na rok 2011 na 100% jest zdanie egzaminu Cisco CCNA. Bardzo żałuję, że nie zdałem tego egzaminu na studiach na świeżo po kursach. Myślę, że teraz nie będzie tak dużego problemu ale pewne rzeczy trzeba będzie sobie przypomnieć.

Co do egzaminów Microsoft w roku 2011 myślę, że postaram się zająć administracją SQL. Dlaczego ? Otóż w wielu ogłoszeniach o pracę wymagana jest znajomość administracji SQL. W moim przypadku nie miałem okazji “bawić” się SQL więc będzie to temat na dłuższą chwilę.

Dokładnie 21.07.2009 pojawiłem się pierwszy raz w moim obecnym miejscu pracy czyli IBM.

Jak większość z nas gdy pojawiamy się pierwszy raz w nowym miejscu pracy byłem podekscytowany i trochę przestraszony zarazem. Nowe miejsce, nieznane mi osoby jednym słowem wielka niewiadoma. Dzisiaj z perspektywy czasu muszę przyznać, że nie było tak źle.

Obecnie po roku pracy muszę szczerze przyznać iż nie żałuję swojej decyzji podjętej w maju tamtego roku. Jestem ze swojej pracy zadowolony, robię rzeczy, które lubię i sprawia mi to przyjemność. Przy “okazji” nauczyłem się ogromnej ilości nowych rzeczy związanych z serwerami Windows a od niedawna wspieram również VMware z czego bardzo się cieszę. Przede wszystkim cieszę się również z faktu, iż mogę pracować z bardzo dobrymi specjalistami, którzy również są moimi dobrymi znajomymi.

Kolejny fakt to możliwość kontynuowania nauki do MCSE poprzez i zdawanie egzaminów Microsoft (jeszcze dwa zaplanowane na ten rok).

Nie pozostaje mi nic innego jak odliczać do kolejnego roku.

Wczoraj w godzinach nocnych dostałem informacje o ciekawym seminarium, które odbędzie się 20 kwietnia o godzinie 15:00.

Na seminarium przedstawione zostaną przez specjalistów od rekrutacji w Cisco rekomendacje i wskazówki, jak najlepiej przygotować się do procesu rekrutacyjnego, jak skutecznie prowadzić rozmowę podczas interview, jakie kryteria są brane pod uwagę i co ? z perspektywy Cisco ? wpływa na sukces kandydata.

Seminarium będzie dostępne on-line poprzez webex i będzie prowadzone w jęz. angielskim.

Pół roku życia w Brnie – małe podsumowanie

Niecałe dwa tygodnie temu rozpoczął się nowy rok 2010 a w dniu dzisiejszym tj. 17.01.2010 mija dokładnie pół roku odkąd żyję w Brnie.

Pół roku wydaje się niedługim okresem lecz w moim życiu i w życiu mojej rodziny dużo się zmieniło. Otóż wraz z moją kochaną żoną Ewelinką oczekujemy na narodziny naszej córeczki która aktualnie ma 25 tygodni i powinna urodzić się na początku maja.

Przez te pół roku mieszkania w Brnie zdążyłem znaleźć mieszkanie (jak dla pary osób jak najbardziej ok ale aktualnie będziemy szukali czegoś nowego) w centrum Brna za dość przystępne pieniądze. Po przyjeździe żony do Brna pozwiedzaliśmy trochę Brno - nie za dużo bo pora roku nie za bardzo sprzyja wycieczkom a poza tym żona też już nie ma tyle sił co wcześniej.

Ogólnie Brno oceniam jako ciekawe miasto i podoba mi się tutaj. Jednak z perspektywy mieszkania w Rzeszowie jest kilka rzeczy, które można by poprawić:

W zimie bardzo kiepsko odśnieżane są chodniki - w Polsce konieczność odśnieżania przez właścicieli chodników przy posesjach jest świetną sprawą a tutaj zalegaja ogromne bryły śniegu czy lodu.
W mieście nie jest do końca czysto - bardzo często można znaleźć pełne kosze na śmieci, walające się ulotki, czy po prostu szeroko pojęty brud. W Rzeszowie jest zdecydowanie czyściej i bardziej dba się o wizerunek miasta.
Niestety pizza w mieście nie jest najwyższych lotów. W Czechach robi się ją bardzo tłustą. Tak jakby polewali ją olejem - mi to bardzo nie smakuje.
Niestety w porównaniu do Polski życie w Brnie jest droższe - jedyny plus, że zarabiam więcej niż w Polsce.
Piwo niestety jest gorsze niż w Polsce i nie jest to jedynie moja obserwacja.

Żeby nie było, że Polak potrafi tylko narzekać oczywiście napiszę co mi się podoba w Brnie:

Bardzo duży bo aż 50 metrowy basen Kometa PS na którym naprawdę można sobie dobrze popływać. Jest jeszcze i to bardzo blisko mnie drugi basen Kravi Hora, który prezentuje się zdecydowanie lepiej niż Kometa ale niestety w godzinach popołudniowych nie ma szans żeby normalnie popływać.
Świetna komunikacja miejska. Naprawdę na tramwajach można polegać, wiadomo czasami się psują ale momentalnie kilka minut po planowanym przyjeździe pojawia się awaryjny autobus i zabiera pasażerów.
W Czechach jest trochę cieplej niż w Polsce.
W Brnie jest bardzo dużo do zwiedzania, my z Żoną przez kilka dni zwiedziliśmy kilka zabytków jednak z powodu zimy nie zwiedziliśmy tak dużo jak chcielibyśmy.

Odnośnie samej pracy w IBM po pół roku mogę powiedzieć, że już dobrze się wdrożyłem. Wiem gdzie co trzeba z kim załatwić, udało mi się już poznać wszystkich kolegów z zespołu Wintel. Poznałem również wiele nowych osób z innych zespołów. Poza dosyć standardowymi rzeczami, które robimy codziennie (a to brakuje miejsca na dysku czy jakiś serwis się zatrzymał) miałem kilka dosyć ciekawych problemów dzięki, którym mozna było się dowiedzieć ciekawych informacji. Ogólnie jestem bardzo zadowolony z pracy i nie żałuję swojej decyzji, którą podjąłem w maju 2009.

Wczoraj wieczorem dostałem wiadomość od Microsoft Learning iż pojawi się nowy egzamin beta 71-693: Pro: Windows Server 2008 R2, Virtualization Administrator.

Egzamin będzie dostępny od 23 grudnia 2009 do 15 stycznia 2010 a rejestracja rozpoczyna sie od 14 grudnia 2009. Na portalu wss.pl pojawiła się informacja o wprowadzeniu nowego narzędzia dla osób posiadających certyfikaty Microsoft lub osób chcących pzygotować sobie po prostu wizytówkę.

Zachęcam do zapoznania się z tym narzędziem bo wizytówki wyglądają całkiem fajnie. Jedyna rzecz którą powinni poprawić to długość adresu wizytówki.

Oczywiście nie byłbym sobą gdybym nie pochwalił się swoją wizytówką 😉

Osobiście jestem trochę zdegustowany tym, że z Windows Server 2008 nie można było uzyskać tytułu MCITP z dwóch dostępnych egzaminów 70-652 i 70-403 (do tego egzaminu miałem niedługo podchodzić i w sumie nie wiem czy jest sens go teraz zdawać) a z nowych wersji juz można.

Portal http://virtualstudy.pl jest inicjatywą redaktora naczelnego portalu polskiej społeczności Windows Server http://wss.pl/ Roberta Stuczyńskiego mającego pomoc w nauce do egzaminów Microsoft.

Informacja ze strony głównej portalu opisująca w jaki sposób powstał pomysł :

Było to kilka miesięcy temu wpadłem na pomysł by zorganizować wirtualne przygotowania do egzaminu firmy Microsoft. Był to egzamin 70-680 ? Windows 7, Configuring. Do eventu zapisało się około 50 osób. Spotykaliśmy się przez około tydzień za pomocą Microsoft Live Meeting. Plus wirtualnych spotkań był taki że mogli w nich uczestniczyć wszyscy niezależnie od tego jakie było jego miejsce zamieszkania. Uczestnicy łączyli się nawet spoza granic Polski.

Cała komunikacja grupy oraz zapisy odbywały się za pomocą platformy Events Live. Niestety platforma ta została zamknięta przez firmę Microsoft we wrześniu 2009. Postanowiliśmy stworzyć własną platformę, portal poświecony wirtualnemu studiowaniu.

Główne założenia to:

tworzenie wirtualnych spotkań na których społeczności i specjaliści chcą dzielić się wiedzą z innymi. Jeśli macie ochotę zorganizować jakieś spotkanie i potrzebujecie w tym pomocy dajcie znać, a my Wam pomożemy,
publikacja materiałów audio/wideo ze spotkań
publikacja materiałów audio/wideo które stworzyli nasi czytelnicy. Jeśli macie ochotę stworzyć takie treści to chętnie je opublikujemy.

Jak sami widzicie idea portalu jest świetna - osoby, które posiadają wiedzę na dany temat lub jeżeli jej nie posiadają ale mają ochotę i czas przygotowują wybrany temat. W określonym przez harmonogram dniu prezentują zgromadzonym osobom swoją prezentację.

Osobiście w Virtual Study Group brałem już udział trzy razy. Pierwsze VSG dotyczyło egzaminu beta 71-680 z Windowsa 7, którego niestety nie zdałem (zabrakło mi 36 pkt), kolejne VSG to egzamin beta z Exchange 2010 71-622. W dniu wczorajszym zakończyło się kolejne VSG tym razem z egzaminów 71-685 i 71-686 - sam podchodzę do egzaminu 71-686 16.10.2009.

Podsumowując serdecznie zapraszam wszystkie osoby, które mają ochotę poprowadzić sesję na Virtual Study Group oraz osoby, które chcą poznać jakąś technologię Microsoft a nie znają jej dobrze bądź dopiero będą miały z nią do czynienia.

IBM IDC Brno – porady i spostrzeżenia

W Brnie mam przyjemność mieszkać już prawie dwa miesiące - swoją przygodę z IBM w Brnie rozpocząłem dokładnie 16.07.2009. Od tamtego czasu zdążyłem zaaklimatyzować się już w mieście, w pracy również idzie mi dobrze (tak mi się wydaje 🙂 ) i w związku z tym chciałem podzielić z Wami swoimi przemyśleniami, uwagami i mam nadzieje cennymi radami.

Mieszkanie

Z mieszkaniem w Brnie nie jest strasznie łatwo - oto moje uwagi dla szukających mieszkania:

Ja miałem wielkie ułatwienie ponieważ agencja rekrutacyjna (Natek) posiada własne mieszkanie w Brnie do którego można bez problemu się wprowadzić (oczywiście jeżeli będziesz pracował dla Natek). Po wypakowaniu się w tymczasowym mieszkaniu pierwszą rzeczą oczywiście po kontakcie z żoną było rozpoczęcie szukania mieszkania. Niestety chwile zajęło mi znalezienie odpowiednich słów kluczowych do wyszukiwarki. Najlepiej wyszukiwać po frazie brno byty pronájem
Bardzo dobra strona dzięki, której ja znalazłem mieszkanie http://bezrealitky.cz . Jest to strona na której nie znajdziemy ogłoszeń z agencji nieruchomości.
Pierwszy zrzut pokazuje ustawienia do wyszukania mieszkana z głównej strony. ![Bezrealitky strona główna]2] Dla więkoszości osób będą to jednak niewystarczające kryteria wyszukiwania. Ja osobiście szukałem mieszkania w pełni umeblowanego więc użyłem wyszukiwania zaawansowanego które dostępne jest pod adresem http://www.bezrealitky.cz/vyhledat z następującymi ustawieniami

Można jeszcze znaznaczyć jakiej wielkości mieszkania szukamy (1+KK czy inne). Aby wybrać mieszkanie umeblowane wybieramy w polu Zařízený: Vybaven****ý dla mieszkania częściowo umeblowanego wybieramy částečné.

Kolejna stroną na której można znaleźć ciekawe ogłoszenia o mieszkaniach to www.seznam.cz. Jest to duży czeski portal podobnie jak nasz onet, wp czy interia. Oto odnośnik do wyszukiwarki http://byty-reality.sbazar.cz/prodej-pronajem-vymena-byty/prodam-koupim-aukce.html.
Dla osób nieznających języka czeskiego dobrym rozwiązaniem jest użycie tłumaczenia online dostępnego na stronie http://translate.google.com. Jako źródło wpisujemy pożądaną stronę i voila 🙂 . Translator googla działa dosyć dobrze, myślę, że lepiej ustawić sobie tłumaczenie z czeskiego na angielski niż na polski.
Strony agencji nieruchomości - po wpisaniu w wyszukiwarkę brno byty pronájem ukaże nam się również wiele stron z mieszkaniami z agencji nieruchomości. Osobiście nie szukałem mieszkania przy użyciu agencji nieruchomości ponieważ w przypadku Brna większość pobiera opłatę za wyszukanie mieszkania w wysokości jednego czynszu. Samo rozwiązanie jest ok dla agencji, niestety dla osób szukających mieszkania na początek wydanie 3 opłat za czynsz gdzie przykładowo czynsz wynosi 10000 koron miesięcznie (1 x czynsz dla agencji + 1x czynsz za miesiąc bieżący i 1x czynsz jako zabezpieczenie za mieszkanie) może być trudne.
Bardzo dobrym rozwiązaniem w IBM jest forum użytkowników. Na forum prawie codziennie pojawiają się różne oferty mieszkań do wynajmu i większośc jest dostępna od pracowników IBM i często bez opłat dla agencji.

Komunikacja

Jeżeli posiadasz samochód musisz pamiętać o wykupieniu winiety jeżeli samochód będzie podróżował po autostradach czy drogach szybkiego ruchu - źródło. Osobiście zapewne wykupię winietę roczną za 1000 koron, ale to dopiero w listopadzie / grudniu. Odnośnie poruszania się samochodem po Brnie nie mogę Wam za dużo powiedzieć, bo czekam na przenosiny żony do Brna i wtedy będę mógł powiedzieć więcej. Póki co napiszę o kumunikacji miejskiej.

Komunikacja miejska. W Brnie komunikacja jest bardzo dobrze rozwinięta ale tak chyba jest w każdym większym mieście. Można podróżować tramwajem bądź trolejbusem. Aktualny rozkład jazdy dostępny jest po angielsku pod adresem http://www.dpmb.cz. Do IBM jeżdzą dwa tramwaje - linia 12 i 13, które przejeżdżają przez główne części miasta. Co do trolejbusów niestety nie mogę się wypowiedzieć bo nie miałem przyjemności ich używać.
Pociągi. Do planowania podróży pociągiem warto użyć strony http://jizdnirady.idnes.cz/vlakyautobusy/spojeni/- wersja angielska działa bardzo dobrze. Jeżeli planujemy podróż z Polski do Czech na stronie pkp wyszukiwanie połączeń działa również bardzo dobrze.

Konto w banku

Jak w niemal każdej pracy w IBM konieczne jest posiadanie konta w banku. Osoboście korzystam z darmowego dla pracowników Natka konta w banku Komerční banka. Znacznie lepszym wyborem w przypadku bezpośrednich pracowników IBM jest założenie sobie konta w banku Raiffaisen z bardzo prostego powodu. Otóż posiadając konto w Raiffaisen wypłatę otrzymujemy 8 bądź dziewiątego każdego miesiąca - ja niestety muszę czekać tydzień dłużej.

Telefon

W Czechach dostępni operatorzy to: Vodafone, O2 i T-Mobile. W IBM większość osób posiada telefony w sieci Vodafone - dlaczego? W sumie to nie ma jakiejs specjalnej przyczyny, przynajmniej z mojego punktu widzenia. Telefon a raczej kartę sim najlepiej kupić w Czechach zaraz po przyjeździe bo opłaty za roaming mogą być ogromne. A co gorsze właśnie na samym początku telefon jest bardzo często używany na przykład do szukania mieszkania.

Po statystykach poprzedniego wpisu (odwiedziny oraz komentarze) oraz maile otrzymane od wielu osób musze stwierdzić iż bardzo dużo osób jest zainteresowanych pracą w IBM.

W mailach i komentarzach pytacie o proces rekrutacji, jak się pracuje itd.

Muszę niestety Was poinformować, że nie mogę udzielić Wam wszystkich informacji ponieważ nie jestem do tego upoważniony.

Tytuł dzisiejszego wpisu może za wiele Wam nie mówić ale za kilka chwil wszystko się wyjaśni.

Otóż od 20 lipca 2009 jestem pracownikiem firmy IBM w Czechach. Siedziba IBM znajduje się w Brnie oddalonym od Rzeszowa około 500 km. Stanowsko jakie zajmuję to Server Management Wintel (2nd level support).

Ze swoją poprzednią firmą Bać-Pol S.A. rozstałem się z początkiem lipca. To właśnie praca w Bać-Polu pozwoliła nauczyć mi się bardzo wielu rzeczy, pod okiem bardzo miłych, koleżeńskich i zawsze pomocnych kolegów - serdecznie Was wszystkich pozdrawiam.

Zmiana pracy przede wszystkim podyktowana była chęcią rozwoju zawodowego w kierunku administrowania serverami rodziny Windows oraz chęcią zdobycia kolejnych doświadczeń zawodowych. Jestem pewny iż pod patronatem IBM zdobędę wspaniałe doświadczenie, nauczę się bardzo dużo nowych rzeczy oraz poznam wielu ciekawych ludzi z całego świata.

IBM w Czechach pracuje ponad 3000 osób z całego świata co rzeczywiście widać i słychać.

Samo centrum może z zewnątrz nie wygląda na ogromne ale uwierzcie mi, iż w środku jest naprawde bardzo bardzo dużo miejsca.

Cóż o samej pracy za wiele nie mogę jeszcze powiedzieć to po pierwsze a po drugie niestety nie mogę bo wiele wewnętrznych procedur mi tego zabrania i podpisałem się pod nimi własnoręcznie.

Z dalszej pracy napewno będą relacje także zapraszam do śledzenia wpisów a poniżej zamieszczam zdjęcia ze spaceru po mieście.

To zdjęcie przedstawia świeżych absolwentów pobliskiego uniwersytetu technologicznego (podejrzewam iż jest to po prostu politechnika). Zaciekawiło mnie na początku dlaczego wszyscy mają ing. przed imionami (czyżby mieli konta w banku ING?) dopiero po chwili skojarzyłem ing. = inżynier.

Przynajmniej mają balkon - w Rzeszowie niestety nie mieliśmy go z żoną w mieszkaniu.

Niesluszna oplata egzaminacyjna za egzamin Prometric

Witam,

wpis ten jest z kategorii informujących. Zdając egzamin w ośrodku egzaminacyjnym certfyikowanym przez Prometric po zamówieniu i opłacie egzaminu przez stronę www bądź telefonicznie ośrodek egzaminacyjny nie ma prawa pobierać opłaty za egzamin.

Jedyną opłatę za tak zarezerwowany egzamin jaką może pobrać ośrodek egzaminacyjny to wysokość podatku Vat z egzaminu.

Inaczej ma się kwestia w przypadku rezerwowania egzaminu poprzez ośrodek. W tym przypadku ośrodki naliczają sobie opłatę manipulacyjną ? czy jakkolwiek to sobie nazywają na paragonie / fakturze Vat.

Wpis powstał ponieważ opisana praktyka pobierania opłat za egzaminy przy rejestracji wykonanej samodzielnie przez stronę prometrica jest nagminna w całej Polsce. Osobiście doświadczyłem tego w rzeszowskim ośrodku egzaminacyjnym OPTeam.

Bardzo ważne jest zachowanie faktury Vat i paragonu ponieważ będa one potrzebne do późniejszego przesłania do Prometrica. Swoje problemy z darmowym zdaniem egzaminu opisać należy na maila pro.GlobalCandidateServices@prometric.com.

According to the agreement Prometric has with all the centers they are not allow to charge extra fee for an exam. They are allowed to charge VAT.

If this is not the case you will have to scan the receipt and emailed it to us. We will forward it to the Channel Managers for further investigation.

Without a physical proof of the extra charge we won?t be able to do anything.

We hope to have provided enough information.

W odpowiedzi załączyłem skan opłat i czekałem na odpowiedź. Po około miesiącu dostałem maila z ośrodka OPTeam w którym zostałem poproszony o odebranie opłat.

Jednym słowem WARTO!

Jeżeli więcej osób będzie zgłaszało takie praktyki to może w niedalekiej przyszłości unikniemy tego typu zachowań.

Egzamin TS: Configuring Microsoft Windows Vista Client zdany

Witam,

chwile była cisza na blogu spowodowana przygotowaniami do egzaminu 70-620 TS: Configuring Microsoft Windows Vista Client.

Egzamin zdałem jako pierwszy uczestnik darmowego szkolenia finansowanego z Unii Europejskiej o którym pisałem tutaj. Na egzaminie była ogromna ilość symulacji ? niektóre z nich nie były trudne, wręcz były banalne. Pytania nie były specjalnie trudne ale co do niektórych miałem wątpliwości. Chodziło przede wszystkim o programy, których nie używam na codzień (Defender, Mail, Calendar,Media Player, Internet Explorer 😉 ).

W każdym razie polecam egzamin na rozpoczęcie ścieżki certyfikacyjnej Microsoftu, lecz ostrzegam iż później nie jest tak łatwo.

Jak zwykle aktualny transkrypt dostępny jest po adresem http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/transcripts numer to 778033 a access code wmarusiak.

Obecnie uczę się intensywnie do egzaminu beta 71-680 TS: Windows 7, Configuring ? zakres egzaminu nie jest już tak prosty jak w Viście. Trzymamy kciuki bo zdaję go 14.05 w OPTeam Rzeszów.

Egzamin 70-652 zdany

27 marca 2009 roku zdałem egzamin 70-652 TS: Windows Server Virtualization, Configuration uzyskałem tym samym tytuł Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist.

Do egzaminu w sumie przygotowywałem się już wcześniej gdy jeszcze była jego wersja beta czyli 71-652. Zdając betę zlekceważyłem wymagania egzaminu w których wyraźnie opisane było o SCVMM. Poskutkowało to nie zdaniem egzaminu i uzyskanie wyniku 610 punktów.

Jako, iż bardzo polubiłem Hyper-V (żeby nie było VirtualBoxa też lubię) postanowiłe, że nie odpuszczę i zdam ten egzamin wcześniej czy później. Jak postanowiłem tak zrobiłem i przygotowywałem się do egzaminu ponad miesiąc.

Aktualnie w rzeszowskim ośrodku Combidaty trwa szkolenie organizowane wspólnie z Podkarpackim Klubem Biznesu. Szkolenie to jest całkowicie darmowe, dzisiaj dostaliśmy bardzo dobre materiały do nauki: książka wydawnictwa MS Press.

Odnośnie samego szkolenia to podejrzewam, że są jeszcze wolne miejsca. Dostępne są trzy ścieżki szkoleń:

Niestety warunkiem koniecznym jest zatrudnienie na stanowisku informatyka oraz posiadanie zameldowania na terytorium województwa podkarpackiego.

W poniedziałek i dzisiaj szkolenie odbywało sie poprzez platformę Office Live Meeting ? sam byłem zaskoczony jak fajne jest to narzędzie. Prowadzący szkolenie bardzo dobrze i sprawnie szkoli nas zdalnie, na następnym zjeździe w weekend spotkamy się pierwszy raz. Trzeba również wspomnieć o sprzęcie na którym jesteśmy szkoleni ? są to niezłe laptopy HP 6710b, których używamy również w mojej firmie. Chciałbym również wspomnieć o świetnej obsłudze i atmosferze w ośrodku podczas szkoleń. W ośrodku dostępny jest za darmo automat z kawą i różne przekąski (ostatnio były to róźnej maści drożdzówki a dzisiaj super smaczne bułeczki 🙂 ).

Szkolenie na które mam przyjemność uczęszczać to nie tylko sam kurs przygotowujący do egzaminu 70-620, jest to również egzamin wraz z promocją Second Shot. Muszę pochwalić osoby przygotowujące projekt, bo naprawde się postarały.

Egzamin 70-291 zdany

Dnia 15.01.2009 zdałem w końcu egzamin 70-291 zbliżający mnie coraz bardziej do ścieżki MCSA. Piszę, iż zdałem go w końcu, a podyktowane jest to trzema podejściami do egzaminu. Jak dla mnie egzamin nie był łatwy - na szczęście aktualnie trwa promocja second shot więc tak naprawde za egzamin płaciłem “tylko” dwa razy.

Teraz mam kilka dni wolnego od nauki - co widać po większej częstotliwości wpisów, a następnie przygotowuję się do egzaminu 70-652 TS: Windows Server Virtualization, Configuring.

Praktyczne aspekty wirtualizacji – Klienci Microsoft

W dniu jutrrzejszym wybieram się(za zezwolenie szczególnie dziękuję Kierownikowi działu) na szkolenie/warsztaty (jak zwą tak zwą) dotyczące wirtualizacji przy użyciu Hyper-V. Troche już wiem odnośnie wirtualizacji bo wcześniej (przed 2008) używałem Virtual PC a teraz używam Hyper-V. Również przygotowywałem sie do egzaminu bety TS: Windows Server Virtualization, Configuring (do której zdania brakło mi niestety 100 pkt) czytałem dużo materiałow odnośnie Hyper-V, zarządzania infrastrukturą zwirtualizowana SCVMM - także pi razy oko wiem o co chodzi.

W dniu jutrzejszym dam znać jak wyglądał pokaz, może uda mi się zrobić jakąś fotkę 🙂

Mam nadzieje, że prezentacja będzie na wysokim poziomie i że dostanę jakiś gadżet MS 😀 hehe

W dniu dzisiejszym na łamach portalu http://wss.pl w dziale aktualności ukazała się świetna wiadomość. W ramach akcji HEROES happen{here} Microsoft rozdaje do testowania:

Windows Vista Ultimate z SP1 NFR (wersja anglojęzyczna) z licencją na 1 rok
Windows Server 2008 60 Days Evaluation (z możliwością przedłużenia czasu testów do 260 dni)
Podręcznik Administratora Windows Server 2008 (w j. polskim)

Należy jedynie wypełnić ankietę dotyczącą produktow Microsoftu oraz zapłacić za przesyłke ww. oprogramowania w kwocie 30zł.

Myślę, że jest to naprawde niewielka kwota dzięki której możemy stać się legalnymi posiadaczami Windows Vista Ultimate z licencją na jeden rok a do tego Windows Server 2008. Nie widziałem książki ale sądząc po komentarzach książka “ujdzie”.

Osobiście już zamówiłem jedną sztukę, zastanawiam się czy nie zamówić na brata i żonę 🙂

Wpis ogólnie jest zaległy (szkic niestety czekał na uzupełnienie od 05.04.2008) a związane było to z przeprowadzką do nowego mieszkania, oczekiwaniem na podłączenie Internetu i masą załatwień przed ślubem.

Ufff - niedawno skończyłem odpowiadać na pytania z 2 rundy. Po rundzie 1 zostałem zakwalifikowany do grupy profesjonalistów co mnie szczególnie nie ucieszyło, bo nie jestem profesjonalistą ani z Windows Server 2003 ani z Windows Server 2008.

Grupa Profesjonalistów jak sama nazwa wskazuje otrzymuje “ciekawsze” pytania i dzisiaj siedziałem nad pytaniami z całego tygodnia bite 1,5 godziny. Grzegorz Tworek dzisiaj dosłownie wymęczył mnie umysłowo - mam nadzieje, jednak iż uda mi się polepszyć moje miejsce w rankingu a nawet wygrać jakąś nagrodę 🙂

W końcu po 14 dniach od zdania egzaminu szanowny Microsoft przesłał mi mój MCPID i Access Code. Dzięki temu mogłem zamówić Welcome Kit Microsoftu w skład którego wchodzi:

Muszę się pochwalić !

W dniu dzisiejszym zdałem egzamin 72-290 (to samo co 70-290 tylko oznacza, że miałem Voucher akademicki) i uzyskałem tytuł MCP. Oznacza to, że jestem certyfikowanym specjalistą Microsoftu.

Teraz pozostaje jeszcze zdać 3 egzaminy:

70-270 (Installing, Configuring, and Administering Microsoft Windows XP Professional) lub 70-620 (Viśta Wiooo ) tu jeszcze mam dylemat
70-291 (Implementing, Managing, and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Network Infrastructure)
70-299 (Implementing and Administering Security in a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Network)

Przede mną dużo pracy ale jak wielką przyjemnością jest robić to co się lubi chyba nie muszę przypominać 😉

Jeszcze takie małe info z dnia dzisiejszego, bardzo dużo osób pyta się z czego się uczyłem oraz czy było trudno.

Otóż uczyłem się z:

Moje wrażenia z egzaminu to: niestety trudny, było kilka pytań tak bezsensownie skonstruowanych, że nie sposób było obrać jakąś strategię na rozwiązanie problemu, a wszystkich pytań było 45. Osobiście miałem dużo pytań z backupów i z monitorowania servera, bardzo mało dotyczyło GPO czy drukarek, co najbardziej stwarzało problemy to symulacje.

Dnia 31.10.2007 zakończyłem karierę w firmie Tarmax Sp. z o.o (aka Traumax 🙂) wyłączny dystrybutor butów New Balance w Polsce.

Administracja siecią i sprzętem komputerowym , routerami, oprogramowaniem użytkowym. Rozwiązywanie problemów użytkowników. Konserwacja, drobne naprawy sprzętu komputerowego. Okresowe przeglądy infrastruktury komputerowej i teleinformatycznej w oddziałach.

MS 2273 ukonczony

We wtorek ukończyłem właśnie bardzo ciekawy kurs Microsoft o numerze 2273, który jest na ścieżce do egzaminu MCSA.

Cóż o samym kursie? Jest to naprawdę bardzo obszerny materiał, porusza kwestie o których wiele osób dotychczas jedynie gdzieś słyszało. Przede wszystkim sam bylem zaskoczony ogromem możliwości jakie daje platforma Server 2003. Wiadomo platforma Windows jest wielkim złem dla całego świata 😉 ale … zawsze jest jakieś ale 🙂 posiadanie wiedzy z zakresu to już jest naprawdę “coś” i za tą wiedzę można uzyskać już naprawdę niezłe zarobki. Wiec nie pozostaje nic innego jak wsiąść sie za czytanie Training Kitow i naukę aby uzyskać chociaż pierwszy certyfikat Microsoftu MCP, który jest jednym z wielu do mcsa 😀
