VMware vExpert 2025 applications are open

The vExpert 2025 award is now open for applications!

vExpert is a way of recognizing people who are passionate about VMware and share their knowledge with others. It’s a pretty big deal in the VMware community.

How do I apply?

First, you’ll need to create a vExpert account and fill out your information. Then, you can apply for the award.

What do you have to do to get vExpert award?

Basically, you need to show that you’ve been actively helping others learn about VMware during 2024. Think about things like:

Writing blog posts about VMware
Speaking at events (about VMware technologies)
Making helpful videos (about VMware technologies)
Answering questions online (about VMware technologies), Reddit/Slack/Etc.
Sharing your code (about VMware technologies)
Helping out your local VMUG (VMware User Group)

Some things, like writing a book about VMware or being a VMUG leader, will automatically qualify you for the award. But you still need to apply!

Important dates:

January 10th: Applications close.
January 13th - February 7th: Voting period.
February 10th: Broadcom compliance starts.
February 21st (or before): vExperts announced!

Google Cloud Migration Center Discovery Client Installation on Windows Server

In todays post we will focus on the procedure of installing Google Cloud Migration Center Discovery Client Installation on Windows Server. In my case I will use Windows Server 2022 but any modern Windows based operating system will be sufficient. We will use connected mode where we will gather all data from on-premises systems and upload it to Migration Center.

Prerequisites

Here are some prerequisites which we need to fulfil before we start the procedure. For best performance physical or virtual machine where we will install discovery client needs to have 2 vCPU, 12 GB of RAM and 30 GB of free disk space. With that specs we will be able to scan up to 10000 Servers.

Installation requirements

Operating System: We need Windows Server 2016 or later or Windows 10 or later with 2 vCPU, 12 GB of RAM and 30 GB of free disk space with Administrative rights.
Software - we need Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge with -2 latest revisions.
Firewall and Network Settings: We need to ensure that the necessary firewall rules allow traffic to and from the Google Cloud services. We need to as well ensure that our “Discovery VM” has access to vCenter Server which we will scan against it. In case you are using Proxy we need to whitelist following URLs:
Google Cloud:
1. Make sure you have a Google Cloud project set up.
2. Make sure that you have permissions to enable Google Compute Engine API and activate Migration Center.
3. We need to enable Cloud Resource Manager API.
4. Service Account with key downloaded. It needs to have following permissions roles/migrationcenter.discoveryClient. If you don’t know how to create a service account key follow this guide from Google Cloud documentation Create a service account key.

Target vCenter Requirements

vCenter Server Credentials - in order to be able to scan vCenter Server we need credentials to access it.
Statistics on vCenter Server vCenter Server itself collects statistics and there are four levels of statistics. Depending on how accurate data we want to gather we need to change statistics to level 3. If you don’t know how to change statistics level in vCenter simply follow this article Configure statistics collection intervals in the vSphere client.
vCenter Server User User we will use to connect from Discovery Agent to vCenter needs to have read privileges on VMs running on vCenter Server. You can create custom role with minimal set of privileges.

Step 1: Google Cloud Project Creation and API enablement

Navigate to Google Cloud Console URL - https://console.cloud.google.com.
After succesfully logging into Google Cloud console we will start with a new project creation. Click on the project name and choose NEW PROJECT.
We need to provide unique project name, choose billing account, organization and project location. After few seconds new project will be created. We can access it directly from the notifications menu.
In top search menu we can start typing migration center and select it.
On this first simple page we click Get Started.
This leads us to section where we need to enable Migration Center APIs (Migration Center API and Rapid Migration Assessment API). Our logged user needs to have permissions to enable them. If not, we can ask someone with permissions to perform this step for us.
As the next step we need to choose a geographical region where Migration Center stores the data. I will choose europe-west4 which is located in Eemshaven, Netherlands. This location cannot be changed later on.
We click next and if you are working with someone like myself - Customer Engineer you can enter Expert Request if you have it :)
On the next screen we can configure our migration preferences. For the time being we accept default settings. We can change those later.
We have successfully completed all steps needed in Migration Center.
Migration Center is ready to be used :)

Step 2: Install the Discovery Client

For the simplicity I will install Google Chrome on my Windows Server and login to Google Cloud from there.

Download the Discovery Client:
1. Visit the Google Cloud Migration Center.
2. Find the link to download the Windows installer for the Migration Center Discovery Client.
3. After downloading the client we execute installation process.
4. We click next and accept the EULA.
5. If needed we can change installation path and opt out from diagnostics and metrics being sent to Google alongside with debug and support logs.
6. On the last screen we finally can click Install and let the installation proceed.
7. Software is installed.
8. We need to restart Windows after software installation.
Configure the Discovery Client:
1. We open the Discovery Client application. It is running in Chrome and our first step is to login to Migration Center. This means we will establish connectivity between Migration Center Discovery Client and Migration Center in our Google Cloud project.
2. As first step Discovery Client checks connectivity to Google Cloud Migration Center. If you click on the button and there is no error we can proceed.
3. On the next screen we login with our credentials to Google Cloud.
4. After successful login we need to choose Google Cloud project we created before.
5. In the next step we can add service account key which we create before.
6. Our last step in connecting to Google Cloud is provide unique name for our client.
7. Our discovery client is almost ready to be used in discovering assets :)

Step 3: Create User in vCenter Server and assign a Role

As we now need to perform some operations in vCenter Server we will switch to it now.

vCenter Server Role Cloning
1. In first step after logging in to vCenter Server we will navigate to Administration and then Roles.
2. We can see that we have several pre-defined roles.
3. We will choose Read-only role and clone it for our purposes. I created role called migration-center-agent-role.
vCenter Server user creation. After creating a role we need to assign it to a user. Let’s create one. Mine will be created in vsphere.local domain.
1. Choose your domain and cllick ADD. Provide username and password.
2. In the section Global Permissions click add button. In the new screen choose correct domain, select user and choose role we previously created.
3. We can confirm if the permissions were assign by click on vCenter Server, ESXi or VMs in Permissions tab.
4. Now we can proceed with configuration of vCenter Server in Migration Center Client.

Step 4: Configure the Client for Discovery

Once we have configured vCenter Server user and we are connected to our Google Cloud project we can finally connect both resources together.

Select Discovery Sources:
1. In Migration Center Discovery Client we start by adding vCenter Server credentials.
2. We need to provide friendly name for credentials alongside with username and password.
3. We need to provide IP or FQDN to our vCenter Server and click test connection. In my case as I am using self signed certificates I had to select Allows HTTPS access using self-signed (less secure) certificates.
4. After succesfull connectivity in the section Discovery we see that vCenter scann will be performed.

Summary

By following these steps, you can successfully install and configure the Google Cloud Migration Center Discovery Client on your Windows Server.

Year 2023 in Review

Year 2023 has been quite busy for me. A lot of happened at work and in my personal life. In this post I would like to wrap up 2023 and share some insights into my plans for 2024.

Blog stats in 2023

My blog is still being visited, but is much less than in a previous years. Firstly I write less, but still I write it. This is most important part. What really struck me is how old post are still visited. Especially about configuration of HP c7000 enclosures. On-premises is still valid ;)

First stats are about users visited in 2023. 32000 Users is still nice amount of the visitors. Could be more, could be less. Most important part is that users are still visiting my blog.

Here you can see the top posts in 2023.

Most visited countries are United States, India and Germany.

The majority of users are using Windows as operating system, followed by macOS and Android.

No wonder that Chrome is dominating the browser section. Edge is trailing and Firefox is at the end.

You visit my blog mostly on Desktop (90%) and on mobile (9%).

Last statistic shows that still the most popular screen resolution is Full HD.

2023 Highlights

Book

I think the main highlight of 2023 was the release of my book. I wrote about it here Blog about releasing my book.

Work

At work it was definitely a year of GenAI. Everything was about it and we have heard about it everywhere. Today at the end of the Year it is not so uncommon to use Bard or ChatGPT or any other Large Language Models (LLMs) and they are part of our daily life now.

The other part of my work with my customers was mainly focus on using the cloud efficiently. Main initiatives focused on infrastructure right-sizing, applying committed use discounts (CUDs) at Google Cloud and using cloud efficiently. Other customers wanted to innovate in some really niche sections like mainframe. Other customers wanted to innovate in database space wanting to remove some expensive databases (mainly Oracle) with viable alternatives like PostgreSQL or AlloyDB from Google Cloud(PostgreSQL compatible Database).

Others

Other things where I spent some time this Year was focus on learning about Kubernetes, how can I use it in my homelab and how to get rid of virtual machines which consume resources and I need to patch them, manage them - the old school way.

Optimize Your JPG and PNG Images and Use WebP Format

Image management is a crucial part of today’s Internet. We generate huge amount of images, we need to store them and it all takes place somewhere. On my blog over many Years, I produced a lot of articles, many with images. I never really bothered about the images that much. They existed and I used them on my blog. However, after moving from WordPress to a static blog generator my ultimate goal was stop using JPG or PNG file formats to improve page speed loading time, to decrease blog size and use modern image formats.

In todays blog I will show you what is WebP format and how I reduced the size of images by 5 times!

What is WebP?

WebP is a raster graphics file format developed by Google intended as a replacement for JPEG, PNG, and GIF file formats. It supports both lossy and lossless compression, as well as animation and alpha transparency.

Google announced the WebP format in September 2010, and released the first stable version of its supporting library in April 2018.

Why should you care about it?

Excellent question :) Part of it was answered in the intro section of the post. WebP is highly efficient graphical image format which with the same image quality takes less space. On Google WebP webpage you can see very nice comparison of WebP image and PNG image.

How I reduced my blog size by x5?

The answer isn’t mysterious. I simply converted all my images from JPG and PNG format into WebP. As I am using static webpage generator - Hugo and I store all my post on GitHub after testing conversion I simply replaced all JPG and PNG occurrences to WebP.

On the next picture you can see the size of folder before and after using WebP format.

How you can convert all PNG and JPG images to WebP?

You can download pre-compiled utilities and libraries from WebP website. I am using macOS so I used brew to download cweb by using command brew install cweb.

Then on macOS I used following scripts from the blog https://www.roberthorvick.com/blog/converting-images-from-png-jpg-to-webp-and-resizing:

Upgrade vCenter Server Appliance 7.x to vCenter Server Appliance 8.x

Todays post will focus on upgrade from vCenter Server 7.x to 8.x. Process itself isn’t very complicated and in normal environment should take around 1h. Let’s dive into it!

Backup your existing vCenter Server

Prio 0 for us is to make a backup of vCenter Server. Please remember that snapshot isn’t a backup :)

Few days ago I wrote an article how to backup a vCenter Server. Follow it and let’s upgrade vCSA :)

vCenter Server Appliance ISO error on macOS

On macOS due to Apple’s security configuration, you might face error Installer” is damaged and can’t be opened. You should eject the disk image.

What we need to is one of the solutions (VMware KB states it incorrectly - you don’t need to do all of below mentioned steps, just one) mentioned by VMware KB - How to fix vCenter Server ISO error on macOS.

Choose one of the fixes:

sudo spctl --global-disable - I don’t recommend it
In Security and Privacy settings (System Preferences >Security & privacy) set “Allow apps download from:” to “Anywhere” - I don’t recommend it
Run the command: sudo xattr -r -d com.apple.quarantine Path_to_the_iso - I recommend it

Example:

sudo xattr -r -d com.apple.quarantine /Users/wojcieh/ISO/VMware-VCSA-all-8.0.2-22617221.iso

Prerequisites

General Prerequisites are as follows:

Download and Mount the vCenter Server Installer
Verify that the clocks of all computers on the vSphere network are synchronized

There are more but I’d rather refer to VMware Docs “Prerequisites to upgrade vCenter Server Appliance”.

Upgrade of vCenter Server Appliance from version 7.x to 8.x

Overall process is quite simple. We deploy new vCenter Server Appliance (vCSA) to our cluster or ESXi host. The second stage involves data migration from old vCSA to a new one.

New vCSA deployment - Stage 1

On the first screen you can read about the process. We click next.
We have to agree to VMware EULA and click next.
In order to process we need to enter FQDN or IP address of our existing vCenter Server Appliance. We need to validate connectivity by clicking Connect to Source. After that we need to provide SSO password and vCSA management password. In later section we need to add FQDN or IP address of ESXi server or vCenter Server that manages the appliance itself.
If there is an untrusted SSL certificate, you might get this warning.
Once the validation completes we need to provide the destination ESXi or vCenter Server where new vCSA will be deployed. For simplicity I thing VMware could create a button - deploy on the same system as before. If the destination is vCSA you will be asked to place a new vCSA in a folder and compute resource. On the screenshot you see ESXi server but I changed it later to use vCSA ;).
If the destination SSL certificate is untrusted you might receive a warning.
We have to choose a VM name for our new vCSA and provide root password.
We need to choose vCSA deployment size. In my case this is homelab deployment so I will choose tiny.
In the next step we have to choose a datastore to place our vCSA.
Pretty much last step is to choose network configuration for new vCSA. I will go with DHCP but I selected the same network segment as existing vCSA.
We have a summary of our settings.
Deployment starts.
After a moment it finishes. We can proceed with stage 2.

Let’s continue with Stage 2.

We need to click next to continue.
Installer connects to source vCenter Server and performs pre-upgrade checks.
There might be some findings so review them carefully.
We are now being asked if we want to copy just the data or data with performance metrics and logs. In my case I will just choose the configuration and inventory data.
You can join as well VMware Customer Experience Improvement Program - it is optional.
On the last screen we see summary and we ar being asked if we backed up vCenter Server. Confirm if you did it and proceed with the upgrade process.
We are being informed that vCenter Server will be shut down and unavailable.
Upgrade is in process.
Upgrade is completed.
We can login to new vCenter Server and use it.

Why Become VMware vExpert 2024 Edition

End of 2023 comes very close to an end. Many things happened this Year and for me most important event was release of my book which I blogged about Blog post about my book released in 2023. Apart from that I was super hyped about VMware Explorer 2023 in Barcelona GCVE Sessions at VMware Explore 2023and My VMware Explore 2023 Session about GCVE.

In this post I will write some tips to aspiring VMware vExperts who would like to apply in 2024.

VMware vExpert after 10 Years and why become one?

After being quite experienced VMware vExpert - 10 Years and counting, I would love to share some insights from my side and as well from VMware vExpert Pro side (we are the ones who are judging vExpert applications).

For me at the beginning vExpert program was mostly about getting free licenses from VMware. It evolved greatly over the years because program itself evolved quite heavily.

Apart from licenses I really enjoyed visibility and recognition amongst colleagues. Sometimes people asked me some very advanced VMware questions :D VMware vExpert doesn’t necessarily have to be know how expert about everything ;)

This days program means much more to me. It is the community where I can ask questions and exchange experience for evergrowing VMware footprint across on-premises and Clouds. It means as well that VMware shares with vExperts some upcoming news and webinars. I really love this part. Personally, for me program means I can mentor other colleagues and support them in their journey into the program.

How to get help with becoming VMware vExpert?

Especially as vExpert Pro I see a lot of applications and judge them according to the program requirements.

Here are some tips for you how to write successful vExpert application:

What you did for a community? Any events, evangelism, anything which you did outside of your job.
Please include any proof that you did it in form of URL. Event URL, VMUG appearance with link, link to your presentation, whatever URL. This helps a lot and saves my and your time.
Don’t include work activities. Work isn’t considered as community activities.

vExpert Gift Review - NX6412 Maxtang EHL30

I finally found some time to built and test the vExpert Gift which I received at VMware Explore 2022. The unit is quite small, compact and is completely fanless set. Let’s dive into the review.

Prerequisites

In order to run this box we need RAM and Storage. If you wish to run VMware ESXi there is a need to have USB based NIC. Unfortunately, VMware doesn’t support Realtek based chipsets.

However, there is a VMware Fling. What are VMware Flings? Flings are apps and tools built by our engineers and community that are intended to be explored. as per VMware Fling website. tl;dr - use on your own risk because it may simply not work. It is available for VMware ESXI starting from version 6.7 up to 8. You can download it from VMware Fling website VMware USB Fling

ESXi Installation

ESXi installation is quite straightforward. However, as mentioned about networking part we need to use USB NIC adapter. those drivers aren’t included in the ESXi ISO and you need to integrate the drivers into the ISO. Fortunately for us, on the webpage https://www.virten.net/2020/09/tips-for-using-usb-network-adapters-with-vmware-esxi/ it is written how can we create custom ISO.

Things that work

So pretty much once the vUSB Fling is installed we can use the box pretty much without any issues. Let’s move to the things which doesn’t work.

Things that work but are problematic

In my opinion some of the things which doesn’t work well can be challenging.

TPM - UEFI Secure Boot

First thing which I had to spent some time on wast TPM. Although in BIOS we can configure TPM from time to time the device hang at the screen.

You simply can’t do anything than go to BIOS and reset TPM. Normally I wouldn’t bother but in my case the device is located in a hanging server rack it can be a bit troublesome.

Unfortunately there is no remote management like iLO or DRAC.

vUSB Fling

At the time of the installation ~ mid November vUSB Fling didn’t work with ESXi 7.0.3 and I had to install ESXI 7.0.2. Minor thing but still. In my opinion this is “the price” we must pay for the inconvinience. As the vUSB Fling got ESXi 8.0.0 support we may expect longer supportability but we can’t take things for granted.

EVC Mode

When joining the device into existing cluster you must EVC Mode. In this case we would have to lower down EVC Mode to Intel Haswell generation. As I had in my main box Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU D-1518 Processor, to make both of them work in a cluster I would need to put them both into new EVC enabled cluster.

Processor

Comparing to my 7 Years Xeon, this processor is very slow. I tried to run the same VM on the Maxtang and boot process was much slower.

Summary

I would like to thank again VMware and Cohesity for the gift. I was so happy that I received it and I couldn’t wait to assemble the unit. After few days of using I’ve decided to install ESXi and test it.

Will the unit stay in my homelab? That is a big YES, but… It will be reinstalled and I will install Ubuntu on it and use it as a single node Kubernetes by using https://microk8s.io/.

I am really happy to announce that I was awarded 9th time in a row a vExpert award. I am really grateful for this and I am really proud to receive this achievement.

As every Year VMware opened vExpert Applications and you can as well apply until January 14th 2022. There is more than two weeks more to apply so don’t wait until the deadline and visit VMware vExpert Portal.

What is VMware vExpert Award?

I wrote about VMware vExpert program for many Years now - you can check my old posts with tag vExpert vExpert posts.

Still it is worth to mention again what is vExpert award.

The vExpert Program is about giving back to the community beyond your day job. The program is not focused on certifications or how much you know about the technology. We are looking for technologists who are blogging, advocating VMware publicly or within your company, doing speaking sessions, book writing, code / script sharing or anything directly related to giving back to the community on topics around VMware.

Who can apply?

2020 Year review

For all of us 2020 has been a very different Year than before. We faced so many challenges, in many countries we were literally locked in our houses, we faced illness and job losses. Fortunately for the IT world 2020 wasn’t as challenging as for the others. In this post I would like to share with you what I have been up to in 2020.

Blog

There was less activity on the blog itself. I didn’t wrote as many post as I would like to but hey we are all changing, we grow and adjust. In 2020 I’ve lost all my three blog sponsors due to not as many activity on the blog as they would love to see. On the one hand it hurt because every extra money is nice to have. On the other hand I was relieved.

You may ask why? The answer is simple. When you write just to keep it alive and not from the pure joy you have to do it. Have to do it isn’t cool. If something is forced on you you have this invisible pressure. I felt free to finally write because I want to do it and not because I have to do it. Obviously the results are clearly visible. Less users, less blog posts and less activity. But hey it is my choice now :)

Now if you compare it to 2019 it looks worse.

I completely understand it and I see the point. The stuff I was writing in 2020 wasn’t as cool as the users expects.

Other blog activities

Apart from blogging itself I am still sharing the VMworld 2017, 2018 and 2020 videos. I already uploaded over 50TiB over the Years. I will still continue to do so.

Work

At work I had some changes in 2020. In march I joined Google Cloud as Customer Engineer. My specialty based on my knowledge and experience is Infrastructure Modernization. I am helping customers with migration to GCP from various on-premises environments, helping customers design and approach Google Cloud Platform in best way. Apart from that I am working with Google Cloud VMware Engine customers. This involves everything from demo the Google Cloud VMware Engine, Proof of Concepts up to migrations and daily operations.

This Year only I attended and presented at four events and presented about Google Cloud VMware Engine:

Family

My closest family did very well in 2020. We weren’t sick and we were very happy. We managed to have a family vacation in 2020 in Kos, Greece. Although, my kids don’t like e-learning which was forced by German government in 2020 but they did fine. For us as a parents it was challenging at the beginning but we found our family rhythm with all that stuff.

The one thing we did miss was the Christmas with out closest family in Poland. First time in our lives we had our own Christmas Eve in Germany and we connected via Skype with my and my wife’s Parents.

Plans for 2021

Not much to plan yet, I hope the vaccines will be available for us soon and we could finally start leaving as before :)

vExpert Second Round Apply and Why Should You do it?

It is this part of the Year where all the cool people which are in love in VMware products can again apply for a vExpert title. If you didn’t have a chance to do it in November 2019 now is you chance to do it.

How VMware vExpert program changed me?

I was blogging for about a two Years in a row about VMware products. I’ve read that there is this mythical program called vExpert. I knew that people who were vExperts were VMware gurus. Just to be there would be extremely important. I’ve asked my colleague Maciej Lelusz what to do. He told me everything back then I finally I’ve got the title.

Over the Years as vExpert what struck me the most was how helpful the vExperts are. They are always keen to help, exchange the knowledge and what is most important for me to simply enjoy VMware products.

vExpert Pro is a title to a certain people who are supposed to help existing vExperts and those who would like to apply for this prestigious title in terms of mentoring, advice or simply help.

How to successfully apply?

Applying for a vExpert role and getting it isn’t always the same. Why? Simply because I’ve reviewed so many vExpert applications and some of them I had to reject.

Please consider to put in your application following information:

What you did for a community? Any events, evangelism, anything which you did outside of your job.
Please include any proof that you did it in form of URL. Event URL, VMUG appearance with link, link to your presentation, whatever URL. This helps a lot and saves my and your time.
Don’t include work activities. Work isn’t considered as community activities.

Why should you apply? Is it worth it?

You can learn from other vExpert. Slack channel is great tool to share the knowledge.
Quite often on Slack channel vExpert are looking for other colleges to grow their teams. In post-covid World might be very important.

Welcome to Static Site Generator

It has been a while since I wanted to migrate away from WordPress. I’ve been using it since the beginning of this blog. Almost 12 Years now. It allowed me to create content very easy and fast. I remember days when I was able to create 2 or 3 posts per day.

Since 2006 WordPress evolved with the web itself. It was lightning fast back then but over the time, or to be more precise with the amount of the plugins and features it was getting slower and slower. Sometimes it helped to install some kind of database optimizer, remove slow plugin or ultimately switch to faster (more expensive of course) hosting provider.

I even ended up paying to some WordPress/Html/Css gurus to optimize my site which sometimes helped but most of the times after some changes was broken again.

Somewhere last year I read about static site generators. They looked cool but back then were pretty much hard to implement for me.

My first choice was Hexo but due to some cool theme back then. I couldn’t implement it completely because I had to use markdown language which I didn’t know at all.

Project Static Site Generator was killed.

A.D 2019

On one of my WordPress sites I started to use a brilliant plugin called WP Githuber MD https://github.com/terrylinooo/githuber-md. Slowly, step by step I migrated first posts to markdown language and I started to write some posts in it. Once, one of the main issues was fixed I migrated the blog toHugo Website.

Hugo is a static site generator written in Go language. It is blazing fast to generate pages.

Personally you should find SSG (Static Site Generator) which will work for you the best.

You can find a lot of them sorted by popularity, issues, number of forks etc –> Static Website Generator.

How to host it?

It is actually quite simple. Once you create your site, generate content and copy stuff from /public directory. You will find only static files - html, css, js, images.

They are very easily to host. Small web server, Azure Blobs, Amazon S3 or GitHub/GitLab pages. Zero php files, complex setups and so on.

Add in front of it any CDN (CloudFlare, Cloudfront) and you can handle gazzilion more requests than typical web server with dynamic content.

Summary

The intent of the post is to simply show you that it can be done. It is not the easiest thing, it requires some effort but benefits are incredible. I have my blog as a code stored on GitLab (preference of choice over GutHub simply because GitLab allows you to host up to 10GiB of files :) ).

I can run the blog whenever I want, it is fast, secure and fun to write again.

Unable to update vCSA 6.5 to 6.7 – quick fix

I am quite busy with keeping my Homelab up to date and I faced strange issue with upgrading vCenter Server Appliance 6.5 to 6.7. The fix is rather easy but let’s identify the issues first.

The first error I noticed was in the vCenter Server Appliance 6.7 Installer.

I checked and I was able to login with my ssh password to vCenter Server Appliance. I wasn’t able to disable root password expiration or even to change the password.

Solution

In order to fix the issue, I logged in to vCSA via SSH and changed the password.

Once the password was changed the vCenter Server Appliance Installer was able to move to the next step.

Zentyal – my new Homelab Swiss Army Knife

I recently had to rebuild homelab due to the SSD disk failure. I had backups but the initial setup wasn’t optimal. I decided to rebuild it from scratch.

As I am using PowerCLI script from William Lam https://github.com/lamw/vghetto-vsphere-automated-lab-deployment one of the prerequisites to successful lab deployment is working DNS. As I don’t want to use Windows Server Active Directory I used Zentyal Server. Besides Directory & Domain Server has many more features: mail server, gateway (routing, gateway, firewall, proxy, ids/ips), and infrastructure server (dhcp, ntp, ca, ftp).

Zentyal is based on Ubuntu Server and has a very nice management panel via a browser.

Zentyal Server installation

The installation is quite simple but let’s go with the steps.

On ESXi, click Create / Register VM and select Create a new virtual machine.
Provide a virtual machine name, choose compatibility, guest os family and guest os version.
Select the Datastore.
As per installation wiki, we will provide 1vCPU and 2GB RAM and 80GB disk.
Click OK.
We need to mount Zentyal ISO - it is a pity that they don’t provide OVA/OVF for easy deployments.
Power the virtual machine.
As the virtual machine is powered on we can proceed with Zentyal Server installation. Choose the desired language.
Select your location.
Choose default locale.
We can skip the keyboard layout detection.
Choose your desired keyboard layout.
In my case, I am in an isolated network and there isn’t a DHCP server. We must provide static IP.
We must enter the static IP configuration.
First IP address.
Then the netmask.
The gateway.
Finally the name server address.
We need to choose a hostname and enter it into the wizard.
The last step from the networking part will be the domain name.
In the next step, we have to create a username.
Choose a password and confirm it again.
Confirm detected timezone.
Zentyal will be installed on the disk.
After a few minutes installation will be completed.

For my homelab, I need the following services: Active Directory and DNS. We will configure those two services in this section.

After the installation, we must install the desired services/packages.

Login to the web interface using previously entered username and password.
Click continue. We must select the services we want to install.
Click install. On the next screen, we will see the summary of selected services.
Once the packages are installed we are being asked about Active Directory configuration. We need to provide Host domain name.

Zentyal Server Active Directory

In order to fully enable Active Directory, we must enable the module.
Go to Module Status section and enable Domain Controller and File Sharing. Please note that it depends on Network, DNS and NTP modules.
The most important part is to click **Save Changes **in the upper right corner.
Confirm changes.

Zentyal Server DNS

In my case, I will use DNS to host internal homelab DNS entries. In order to add DNS entries go to DNS.
Click Hostnames and Add new.
Next step is to add IP addresses to DNS entries. Click gearbox on desired DNS entry.
The most important part is to Save Changes in the upper right corner.

Zentyal is the perfect solution for a Homelab where you want to have open source DNS, Active Directory and many more services. I use it every day and I am really happy.

How to upgrade VMware Distributed Switch

One of the parts of the upgrade process from vSphere 6.0 to vSphere 6.5 is to upgrade vSphere Distributed Switch.

Prerequisites

First and most important prerequisites is to perform a backup of vSphere Distributed Switch. I described the procedure in this blog post How to backup and restore vSphere Distributed Switch. The second prerequisite is to create an ephemeral port for vCenter Server. I described it in the following blog Why vCenter Server needs an ephemeral PortGroup? post why it is important to have ephemeral portgroup for vCenter Server.

How to upgrade VMware Distributed Switch

Log in to the vSphere environment.
Click on **Networking **and select VMware Distributed Switch you want to upgrade. Please notice highlighted **Upgrades available **notification.
To upgrade vDS click Actions / **Upgrade **and finally Upgrade Distributed Switch.
On the first screen click next to confirm the upgrade.
vCenter performs compatibility check if connected hosts are compatible. Click next to continue.
On the last screen, we see a summary of steps we did to upgrade VMware Distributed Switch (vDS).
When we click finish vDS is upgraded to version 6.5.

Summary

This concludes the process of upgrade VMware Distributed Switch from version 6.0 to version 6.5.

How to upgrade ESXi 6.0 to ESXi 6.5 using VMware Update Manager

In the last post about upgrading ESXi 6.0 to ESXi 6.5, I showed you How to upgrade ESXi 6.0 to ESXi 6.5 using esxcli and How to upgrade ESXi 6.0 to ESXi 6.5 using Interactive Installer. In this post, I will show you how to upgrade ESXi 6.0 to ESXi 6.5 using VMware Update Manager.

In my previous post, I showed you the process of Migration of Windows vCenter Server 6.x to vCenter Server 6.5 Appliance. With the release of vSphere 6.5, vCenter Server Appliance finally has built-in Update Manager. This means that in 99% cases Windows Server is no longer needed to manage updates of ESXi and virtual appliances.

Prerequisites

To patch ESXi using VMware Update Manager we need only one thing - ESXi installation ISO. Besides that, we just need compatible hardware 😉

Import ESXi ISO to VMware Update Manager

Log in to vSphere Web Client and click Update Manager.
Choose your vCenter Server and click Manage.
Click ESXi Images.
In ESXi Images section click button Import ESXi Image and point to downloaded ESXi ISO.
After few moments ISO will be imported to Update Manager.
We will create new Baseline and choose Upgrade. Give it a name and select Host Upgrade.
Choose previously uploaded ESXi ISO image and click Next.
We just need to click finish to finalize New Baseline creation.
We will create new Baseline Group and attach it to one of the ESXi hosts. Click on New Baseline Group and name it.
Now we need to add previously created Baseline.
I will skip patching the host.
On the extensions section simply click next.
**Ready to complete **screen provides us a short summary of Baseline Group.

Upgrade ESXi 6.0 to ESXi 6.5 using VMware Update Manager

We are prepared to upgrade ESXi 6.0 to ESXi 6.5 using VMware Update Manager.

Choose ESXi or Cluster (I will upgrade one ESXi) and click on **Update Manager **tab.
Click Attach Baseline and select ESXi 6.0 to 6.5 Baseline Group.
Click **San for Updates **to find out if a host/hosts is/are compliant or not. In my case, I had to remove NSX 6.2.4 VIBs.
After a quick removal of incompatible VIBs (in a production environment you don’t want to do it 🙂 ).
To perform upgrade we will Remediate and attach baseline to ESXi.
Since I clicked on single ESXi hosts it is already selected. If you would select cluster all members of the cluster would be listed.
Accept EULA and click next.
We have possibilities to choose from advanced options like scheduling the task or ignore warnings.
In **Host remediation options **we can decide if we want to change VM Power state, disable any removable media devices connected to the virtual machines or how many times maintenance mode will run in case of a failure.
In next section, we can configure Cluster remediation options. I went with the defaults.
On the Ready to complete page we can review options selected for ESXi upgrade.
Remediation is in progress.
After few minutes ESXi is upgraded from version 6.0 to version 6.5.

Summary

VMware Update Manager is very powerful management part of vSphere stack. In just a few steps we can update many of ESXi servers without any interruption to running workloads.

Runecast Analyzer 1.5 review

I’ve been using Runecast Analyzer in my lab since I introduced it to my readers a while ago Runecast Analyzer review. Not so long ago Runecast Analyzer 1.5 release was introduced to customers.

I would like to focus in this review on new enhancements and features introduced in version 1.5.

Multiple VMware vSphere vCenters support

Runecast Analyzer 1.5 allows to view and manage multiple VMware vSphere vCenters via one dashboard.Many customers have more than one vCenter Server: Production, Q&A or Dev environments or even more. Having one dashboard with all vCenter Server provides easier management and monitoring of the environment. This enhancement allows deploying single Runecast Analyzer appliance with reduced overhead on the environment.

Multiple vCenter Dashboard

Once you install Runecast Analyzer you see an empty dashboard. We will connect several vCenters to show you how easy it is to see more than one vCenter in Runecast Analyzer 1.5.

Login to Runecast GUI.
Go to Settings where we will add several vCenter Servers.
In the main GUI, click Analyze Now and confirm which vCenter Servers you would like to analyze.
It takes a moment to analyze the whole environment.
From the top menu, you can choose vCenter on which you would like to focus.
Once selected you can take a look at details of selected vCenter Server and its environment.

Other enhancements

Other enhancements in version 1.5 include improved security, enhanced log search and filtering and improved Knowledge Base filters.

Summary

As you saw enhancements done by Runecast Analyzer Team are very useful and will improve productivity and ease of use of the product. In my opinion, product get much better with 1.5 release and I could simply suggest to install it in your environment and give it a try. VMware vRealize Log Insight – Installation and Configuration

VMware vRealize Log Insight as its name say gives you insight to the logs. It provided not only plain view of logs, but much more. I use it on daily basis in many modern environments and with every day I love it more and more.

Product description

As I mentioned above Log Insight is one and only tool you need to collect and analyse logs. Besides vSphere environment you can collect logs from all flavours of Windows and Linux Operating Systems. Log Insight is highly scalable - up to 12 nodes. If you calculate Large appliance size = 1500 ESXi hosts (~15000 events/second or ~225GB/day) x12, it gives you following numbers to collect per day: 18000 ESXi hosts (~180000 events/second or ~2700 GB/day). Check my page where you can find Log Insight Configuration Maximums VMware vRealize Log Insight Configuration Maximums.

Log Insight has intuitive and easy to use GUI with pre defined dashboards. Besides that it allows you to use interactive analytics with advanced filtering.

Installation

Login to vSphere, choose Cluster where you want to install vRealize Log Insight and click Actions and Deploy OVF Template.
Choose Local file and click Browse. Go to location where you saved downloaded OVA file. Click Open and Next.
Review details and accept EULA.
Choose name for virtual machine and place it in folder.
Select configuration right for your environment:

Extra Small - up to 20 ESXi hosts (~200 events/second or ~3GB/day)
Small - up to 200 ESXi hosts (~2000 events/second or ~30GB/day)
Medium - up to 500 ESXi hosts (~5000 events/second or ~75GB/day)
Large - up to 1500 ESXi hosts (~15000 events/second or ~225GB/day)

I selected Extra Small, because this size will be more than enough for my Lab. Select storage and disk format. Once again for my Lab deployment one and only possible choice is thin provision disk.
Choose network where your Log Insight connects to and IP protocol.
We are almost at the end and we have to enter few settings like hostname, IP and others.
On the ready to complete screen review settings and click Finish to complete.
After few minutes connect to vRealize Log Insight URL to finish configuration.

Configuration

General Configuration

Click Next to start configuration process.
This is our first installation of Log Insight so we click Start New Deployment button.
Provide admin user Email and password.
Enter Log Insight license key and click Save and Continue.
Enter Email address where alerts will be sent and if you wish you can join VMware Customer Experience Improvement Program.
On the next screen Time Configuration has to be configured. If you are ok with defaults provided by VMware click Save and Continue, otherwise enter your own NTP servers.
On the next screen enter SMTP configuration. In my case I skipped it since I don’t have any SMTP server in my lab.
We finally completed general configuration wizard and on last page click **Finish
On next screen we have suggestions of possible ways to use Log Insight straight away after deployment. Let’s collect logs!

vRealize Log Insight vSphere integration

On upper right corner click button and then Administration. Click vSphere and enter vCenter Server Hostname, Username and Password. Let’s choose Collect vCenter Server events, tasks, and alarms and Configure ESXi hosts to send logs to Log Insight.
Recent tasks in vCenter Server shows that on all ESXi hosts connected advanced settings have been configured.
Log Insight first vSphere integration is finished.

vRealize Log Insight Active Directory integration

In admin section go to Authentication and select Enable Active Directory support.
Provide domain name, domain controller, username and password and choose whether you want to use LDAPS (LDAP over SSL - secure LDAP) and click Save to finish Active Directory configuration.
Next step is to add Active Directory group rights to login. Because, I am doing all configuration in my lab I will add domain admin group 😉
After that simply login to Log Insight with your Active Directory credentials.

vRealize Log Insight Windows Agent deployment

vRealize Log Insight has Windows and Linux Agents that can be installed on systems. I deployed via Group Policy Log Insight Agent. If you don’t know how to do it check out my old, yet still valid video Google Chrome deployment using group policy in Active Directory.
After few minutes in section Agents members or to be more precise target computers chosen in GPO scope will be visible.

vRealize Log Insight integration with vRealize Operations Manager

In case you want to integrate vRealize Log Insight with vRealize Operations Manager go to admin section and choose vRealize Operations.
Provide hostname, username and password along with alerts and launch in context integration.
Click Test Connection and once configuration is verified click Save.
After few seconds integration between two products will be completed.

Summary

I think best summary is to show you that dashboards are populated with data and it simply works.

Runecast Analyzer review

Introduction

Welcome to another review of fantastic software on my blog. Today Runecast Analyzer review will show us what proactive monitoring in addition to best practices and VMware Knowledge base articles can do in your environment.

Runecast Analyzer is a startup company founded by Stanimir Markov in 2014. Since then product grew and already Runecast has quite large portfolio of customers.

Installation

After introduction to Runecast Analyzer I will guide you through installation of appliance in my lab. I used version 1.0.0.30 which requires to install 2vCPU and 6GB of RAM, 2,7GB of disk space as thin and 40GB of disk space as thick.

Login to vSphere Web Client, select Cluster to place Runecast Analyzer.
Click Actions, Deploy OVF Template and navigate to directory where Runecast Analyzer OVA is downloaded. Click Next.
Review details of appliance and click Next.
Accept End User License Agreement and click Next.
Choose folder to install Runecast Analyzer and name for virtual machine. Click Next.
Choose Thin or Thick Provision virtual disk format and destination datastore. Thin provisioned installation size is 2,7GB and thick provisioned installation is 40GB.
Choose correct network and click Next.
We are almost at the end of Runecast Analyzer appliance deployment and we have to provide few values: hostname, default gateway, dns, network IP and netmask.
On last let’s review all settings and to complete appliance installation click Finish.
Use default credentials: rcuser with password Runecast! to login to appliance.
As we see appliance is up and running, but to make it fully operational let’s configure it.

Configuration

Go to Settings and click Edit to configure vCenter Server connection.
Enter vCenter Server FQDN or IP address, change port if needed and provide username and password with administrative rights.
Next step is to enable Automatic Scheduler. You can set scanning and analysis frequency based on your needs. Click Edit and change it from Manual to Automatic. I configured it to run on daily basis.
In production environment Email alerting is most common way to deliver reports. Runecast Analyzer naturally has this functionality as well. Simply click Edit to enter settings from your environment.
In section Log Analysis it is possible to configure retention of collected logs. It is possible to choose from Days and occupied Disk space.
In section User Profile it is possible to change password for local user rcuser and integrate Runecast Analyzer with Active Directory. By default members of Active Directory group Runecast_admins have access rights to use Runecast Analyzer. I configured it (since this is lab) with Domain Admins Active Directory group.
Go to Licenses to change 30 day trial to your purchased license. Click Add License and use download file from Runecast portal.
Choose which ESXi hosts to license and click Assign License button.

Usage

To have full picture of environment ESXi logging configuration has to point to Runecast Analyzer. There are several ways how to do it - fastest way will be use PowerCLI script - one example could be PowerCLI – Configure Syslog for All Hosts.

The other way to do it is by using Runecast Analyzer itself.

Go to Status and click on Host syslog settings section.
Click wrench icon and choose all ESXi hosts. Don’t worry - original syslog settings are preserved and Runecast Analyzer is appended to configuration. ESXi supports multiple syslog servers.
Once Configure button is entered, confirmation window appears. Click Ok to finish syslog configuration.
Recent tasks pane in vSphere Web Client we see that configuration is applied.
To be 100% sure that previous settings were not overwritten and of course that Runecast Analyzer receives logs as well, ESXi Advanced System Settings has to be checked. 6. Last step is to start analysis of environment. Click big orange button Analyze Now, wait few minutes so Runecast Analyzer scans whole environment.

Results

Finally we are in the most interesting part of review. I was extremely curious of what results Runecast finds in my lab. Scan itself took around 10 minutes for 7 ESXi hosts.

Dashboard

After first scan we go directly to Dashboard where we see result of scan. It has few sections nicely organized.

From dashboard we can easily see where and what we have to do. In my case we see the following:

Inventory

In inventory view we can focus on each part of environment: Compute, VMs, Storage and Network. Selecting each category it is possible to drill down to desired component of each section. Once resource is selected we have nice list of findings categorized by severity.

It was quite difficult to catch inventory and its result on one screen and I decided to open two browser windows so you could see it better.

Issue List

In Issue List view we simply see all issue categorized by severity. I find it really useful to remove filters per category and filter by keyword.

Another fantastic feature is Copy, CSV and PDF. Copy allows you to copy (of course, what else would it do 😀 ) and paste all results to clipboard and paste it later on to any editor.

CSV allows you to quickly export to comma separated value file and then work on them in Excel.

PDF provides simple and quick export of report to pdf format.

KBs discovered

First Critical Issue

Runecast Analyzer did fantastic job finding related things to my lab. First issue NETDEV WATCHDOG timeout error and ESXi 6.0 loses network connectivity (2124669)is as well in my environment.

Note that affected objects count is 6 and I have 7 ESXi. Why not 7? KB relates to ESXi 6.0 Update 1 and one of the hosts is ESXi 6.0 Update 1b.

Second Critical Issue

Second issue found in my environment is as well related to ESXi patch level I am using - it is well-known CBT bug.

Of course I have more issues/KBs and I didn’t want to bore you to death with them.

Best Practices

Best practices detected a lot of issues. I reviewed recommendations and from my experience perspective they are quite correct.

Security Hardening

Same as above - I find all security hardening recommendations valid and they should be implemented. Hopefully your environment is better secured than my lab.

Summary

After spending few hours with Runecast Analyzer I am convinced that product is at least worth to test in your environment. As Runecast advertise it, its primary function is to scan your environment proactively and not reactively. So by having it in your environment you really can avoid a lot of issues. Of course if you will face unknown bug in your environment (and there is no KB released yet) that there is nothing you can do and to call VMware Support (and by the way they are superheroes!).

Today I would like to show you how to change or setup location of VMware ESXi System Logs to local or remote datastore.

Quite recently I reinstalled my Home Lab and I faced following notification in vSphere Web Client.

First of all we should ask ourselves why do we want to do it? The answer is quite simple - in case of disaster or troubleshooting we need access to ESXi logs. If you don’t store system logs at all it will be not possible to investigate issue without logs. In case you want, System Logs can be moved away from local to remote (FC, iSCSI or NFS) datastore.

Changing location of VMware ESXi System Logs to local datastore

Login to vSphere Web Client.
Go to Manage \ Settings \ Advanced System Settings. In search field type Syslog.global.logDir and hit Enter. ![Change location of VMware ESXi System Logs to local or remote datastore - 2][3]
Double click on Syslog.global.logDir and enter name of the datastore where you want to store logs in format [datastore_name]folder. In my case it looks like that: [ESXi01-local]logs. Browse datastore where we store ESXi logs to check if settings are applied correctly. ![Change location of VMware ESXi System Logs to local or remote datastore - 3][4]

As you see it was quite easy and we achieved our goal to store ESXi logs on datastore. HP OneView overview and installation

Introduction

I have worked with HP Hardware (rack and blade servers) for more than five Years. I think that blades and HP enclosure is fantastic product and has wonderful capabilities.

However when your business grows it happens as well with your infrastructure - more and more enclosures are purchased and more blades are deployed. Managing all that stuff starts being difficult. Where is this blade? Do I have same VLAN’s in enclosures? What kind of firmware version I have in enclosure A and in enclosure B?

You probably have same experience as I have so you will really like when I will tell you a bit more about HP OneView. I promise I will not bother you with marketing bullshit but my impression of the tool and some core functions.

The Idea

I believe HP overslept when Cisco announced its blades technology. For me Cisco did perfect thing - in one fabric interconnect you can have up to 320 blades which translates into 40 enclosures you can manage from single UI! This is AWESOME!

HP of courses allowed you to use Enclosure Linked Mode or Virtual Connect Multi Stacking but this is completely different idea introduced in HP OneView. In HP OneView you can connect up to 40 enclosures which gives you maximum of 640 blades you can manage from one single interface!

HP OneView is delivered as virtual appliance. It requires the following amount of resources:

HP OneView installation

Once you downloaded it from HP website you should install OneView, adjust your network settings to existing environment and then you can power on Virtual Machine.

Please refer to one of my earlier post how to deploy OVF Template https://www.wojcieh.net/deploying-ovf-template-using-vsphere-client-and-vsphere-web-client/.

HP OneView startup takes a lot of time so be patient. Once it is up and running we start with accepting HP OneView License.
You can enable Application Support. Basically it allows HP Support to get access to your system through system console to fix issues you reported. Choose appropriate setting and clock OK.
Login to HP OneView using credentials. Username - Administrator, password - admin and click OK.
You will be asked to change default password to new one. Do it and click OK.

HP OneView initial configuration

Once we finished we need to provide several details to complete initial configuration.

Choose FQDN name for HP OneView.
Provide either Manual or DHCP IP address.
Enter Preffered DNS server and alternate DNS server.
Select IPv6 configuration.
In Time and Language section choose right time synchronization setting. You can synchronize time with VM host or use time server.
Select default language and locale settings from the list.
After we finished with initial configuration click OK and wait for HP OneView configuration.
Once your configuration is saved and validated you can login to HP OneView via Browser.

Summary

As I mentioned at the beginning - HP overslept a bit with their management tools. I strongly believe that HP OneView is the tool you will really like to use in your environment. From my side it is pity that it doesn’t support G6 Blades fully - just monitoring purposes. The problem is with mixed environments where you still have some old crappy Unix/Linux production servers nobody want’s to touch and migrate to never hardware.

I like the tool very much and I am using it more and more by daily basis.

Managing you blade infrastructure might be sometimes challenging. I decided to guide you through components of HP c7000 Enclosure and components you can use. After short introduction I went through initial configuration and additional settings which I thing are quite useful.

HP c7000 Enclosure overview

The HP BladeSystem c7000 Enclosure goes beyond just Blade servers. It consolidates server, storage, networking and power management into a single solution that can be managed as a unified environment.

The BladeSystem c7000 enclosure provides all the power, cooling, and I/O infrastructure needed to support modular server, interconnect, and storage components today and throughout the next several years. The enclosure is 10U high and holds up to 16 server and/or storage blades plus optional redundant network and storage interconnect modules.

Intelligent Infrastructure support: Power Discovery Services allows BladeSystem enclosures to communicate information to HP Intelligent PDUs that automatically track enclosure power connections to the specific iPDU outlet to help ensure redundancy and prevent downtime. Location Discovery Services allows the c7000 to automatically record its exact location in HP Intelligent Series Racks, eliminating time-consuming manual asset tracking.

HP BladeSystem Onboard Administrator is the built-in enclosure management processor, subsystem, and firmware base used to support the HP BladeSystem c-Class enclosures and all the managed devices contained within them. Onboard Administrator provides a single point from which to perform management tasks on server blades or switches within the enclosure.

Interoperability

HP c7000 Enclosure configuration

HP c7000 Enclosure configuration - Insight Display

First step to configure enclosure is IP address configuration using Insight Display.

Navigate to Enclosure Settings
Navigate to Active OA and click OK.
Navigate to Active IPv4 and click OK.
Choose proper value - static IP configuration or DHCP and click OK.
Interface will direct you to Accept button. Click OK.
Now you can enter your IP address. It takes a while and after setting IP address go to Accept.
Do the same with second Onboard Administrator module and now we can switch to web based configuration.

HP c7000 Enclosure configuration - First Time Setup Wizard

After you successfully login to enclosure you will be welcome by First Time Setup Wizard. We will go through it since it configure majority of settings.

Check Do not automatically show this wizard again if you don’t want to be bothered again by this wizard. Click Next.
On the next screen you can choose to enable FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standards) which is in simple words set of standard cryptographic modules. Select it according to your needs.
Select your enclosure and click Next.
If you have previously saved configuration file you can use it to set up enclosure.
Configure Rack Name, Enclosure Name and Date and Time. I suggest to use NTP server to have always up to date time and date settings.
You can change password for Administrator and enable PIN protection before using the enclosure’s Insight Display. Click Next.
In next section we can create additional Local User Accounts. Let us create one just to show you how do we do it. Click New.
Provide User Name, password and Privilege Level. On the right part of the screen choose where user should have access. At the end click Add User.
On the next screen we will configure EBIPA - Enclosure Bay IP Addressing. EBIPA is internal DHCP scope for Blades iLO and devices in enclosure bays (HP Virtual Connect or HP Access Gateway). Click Next.
We need to fill in First EBIPA Address, Subnet Mask, Gateway, Domain and DNS Servers. Next step is to click button Autofill which will fill in whole range.
We do the same for Interconnect Bays and click Next.
You can configure IPv6 in the same way. I skipped this and I moved ahead to next step.
Next step is to configure Directory Groups.
Click New and add Group Name, set privilege level and gave group necessary permissions. After that click Add Group.
Click Next and we will setup Directory Settings.
Select Enable LDAP Authentication and Use NT Account Name Mapping (DOMAIN\username). Provide following settings:
- Directory Server Address.
- Directory Server SSL Port.
- Search Context.
Click Next and we will go ahead to Network Settings.
Provide settings for both Onboard Administrator modules:
- DNS Host Name
- IP Address
- Subnet Mask
- Gateway
- DNS Server 1
- DNS Server 2
Click Next ( I skipped IPv6 configuration) and we will go ahead with next wizard setting.
Almost at the end you can configure SNMP Settings. In my wizard I skipped it.
Last step is to set Power Management settings.
- Power Mode - select AC Redundant, Power Supply Redundant or Not Redundant.
- AC Redundant - In this configuration N power supplies are used to provide power and N are used to provide redundancy.
- Power Supply Redundant: Up to 6 power supplies can be installed with one power supply always reserved to provide redundancy.
- Not Redundant: No power redundancy rules are enforced and power redundancy warnings will not be given.
Dynamic Power - This mode is off by default since the high-efficiency power supplies save power in the majority of situations. When enabled, Dynamic Power attempts to save power by running the required power supplies at a higher rate of utilization and putting unneeded power supplies in standby mode.
Power Limit - Power Limit AC Input Watts over this set limit.
Click Next and you will finish First Time Setup Wizard.

HP c7000 Enclosure configuration - Additional Settings

HP c7000 Enclosure additional settings - Directory Settings

In order to use Active Directory authentication we need to import domain controller certificate into enclosure.

Go to Users/Authentication expand Local Users and click to Directory Settings.
Click on Certificate Upload, paste your certificate and click Upload.
Last step is to test settings. Navigate to Test Settings tab. In order to do it give username and password and click test settings.
After you click Test Settings you have to wait a while for test result.
If everything is set up correctly you should see success. In my case I don’t have Passed in all cases because I can’t ping domain controller, but authentication works.

HP c7000 Enclosure additional settings - Enclosure IP Mode

Similar to Virtual Connect Module, Onboard Administrator support “virtual IP mode”. In simple words it means that by accessing OA you will be always redirected to active OA in enclosure. In order to enable it go to Enclosure Settings click Enclosure TCP/IP Settings and you will find setting in IPv4 Settings tab. Select Enclosure IP Mode and click Apply.

HP c7000 Enclosure additional settings - Onboard Administrator Active/Standby Transition

Another quite useful feature in Onboard Administrator is possibility to switch between Active and Standby OA. In order to switch you simply need to click Transition Active to Standby in Enclosure Settings, Active to Standby.

HP c7000 Enclosure additional settings - Link Loss Failover

Link Loss Failover allows monitoring of network link status of the Active Module. If we enable this function in case Active OA loose network automatic failover to Standby OA will happen. To enable it navigate to Enclosure Settings and click Link Loss Failover. Select Enable Link Loss Failover, provide Failover Interval in seconds and lick Apply.

Recently I was really tired of new tickets notification delivered to my work mobile BlackBerry Bold 9790. My mobile has installed BlackBerry OS version 7.0.

I was looking for solution how to change synced folders from Exchange server but I wasn’t lucky and / or patient enough to find it.

So this is how you should do it:

Go to Messages
Select Options
Hit BlackBerry button and then go to Email Preferences
Again BlackBerry button and then Folder Redirection

Now you are able to select from which folder you would like to receive emails. It sounds very easy and in reality it is easy, but to find it in Internet is other thing.

VMware ESXi 5.1 USB install

First blog entry this Year will be in English and about creating ESX/ESXi and Linux installers on USB sticks.

During my IT work I tried so many tools which should create bootable Linux but always there was something wrong with this or that. I tried Unetbootin, ISO2USB and others.

Today I found working tool which is called LiLi - Linux Live USB Creator. You can download it here http://www.linuxliveusb.com

I tried it with ESXi 5.1 and 4.1, Ubuntu and CentOS - in all cases installation was clean and smooth. Process of creating bootable USB was very fast and it works like a charm.

Why I even started to look for new tool? I was following VMware documentation but of course there was “small” problem. When I tried to boot it I got error related to wrong version of syslinux installed on the box I was preparing my USB (mboot.c32: not a COM32R image).

Long story short - this tool is very handy and it worked.

I recommend to use it for VMware ESXi 5.1 USB install.

Przede wszystkim polecam zapoznanie się z licencjonowaniem i zalecam wybranie edycji od wersji Professional. Wersja ta posiada integrację z Active Directory co w środowisku korporacyjnym jest niezwykle ważne (integracja z Active Directory pozwala pozbyć się lokalnych użytkowników). Bardzo ciekawie prezentuje się zarządzanie dostępem do haseł - możemy tworzyć foldery, dodawać role użytkowników do konkretnych folderów.

Kolejną z ciekawych funkcji jest możliwość uruchamiania konsoli SSH (np. PuTTY) czy RDP bezpośrednio do danego systemu z oprogramowania. Bardzo podoba mi się możliwość wymuszenia automatycznej zmiany haseł do systemów (urządzenie / system powinien mieć dostęp przez telnet lub ssh) oraz możliwość tworzenia skryptów.

Microsoft Lync – rozmowy zakładkowo niekontrolowane

Firma,w której pracuję używała do niedawna pakietu Lotus Notes. W pakiecie Lotusa dostępny był komunikator Sametime. Chyba najlepszą funkcjonalnością Sametime była łatwość dodawania zrzutów ekranów czy plików graficznych do okna rozmowy.

Po migracji do Microsoft Lync wielu użytkownikom brakowało również możliwości otwarcia jednego okna komunikatora i rozmawianie z różnymi osobami przy użyciu zakładek. W Lync nie ma takiej możliwości przy użyciu samego programu, jednak jest to możliwe przy użyciu dodatku o nazwie Tabbed Conversations. Można go ściągnąć ze strony Microsoft http://lync.microsoft.com/Adoption-and-Training-Kit/tools-and-apps/Pages/Tabbed-Conversations.aspx.

Nie będę opisywał instalacji dodatku jednak chciałem się podzielić pewnym rozwiązaniem ułatwiającym życie.

Otóż, po starcie systemu dodatek **Lync Tabbed Conversations **uruchamia się znacznie szybciej niż Lync.

Rozwiązanie, jakie proponuję to skrypt uruchamiający się po starcie systemu uruchamiający najpierw Lync a później dodatek Tabbed Conversations. Dodatkowo dodałem automatyczny start Outlooka.

Należy usunąć z folderu Startup (Autostart) skrót do TabbedConversations.exe Ścieżka C:Users\AppData\Roaming\MicrosoftWindows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\TabbedConversations.exe
Wyłączyć automatyczny start Lync po starcie systemu w opcjach programu
Należy utworzyć plik Startup.bat w katalogu C:\Windows\System32\GroupPolicy\UserScripts\Logon
Następnie edytujemy lokalne gpo poprzez gpedit.msc i modyfikujemy polisę User ConfigurationWindows SettingsScriptsLogon dodając plik Startup.bat, jako logon script

Wdrażanie Mozilla Firefox w Active Directory

Tak jak obiecałem w poprzednim wpisie o wdrażaniu Google Chrome poprzez GPO dzisiaj chciałbym pokazać w jaki sposób zainstalować w domenie przeglądarkę Mozilla Firefox.

Zaczynamy zabawę!

Pomyslałem, że łatwiej będzie jak zobaczycie filmik na którym zaprezentuję instalację Firefoxa.

Paczka MSI Firefox

Z Firefoxem jest trochę kiepsko jeżeli chodzi o paczkę instalacyjna msi. Niestety Mozilla jeszcze jest daleko w tyle za Chrome nie wspominając o IE.

Póki co paczki msi od Mozilli nie ma ale są sposoby aby ją znaleźć:

można samemu ją stworzyć przy użyciu narzędzi do tworzenia paczek msi

Niestety na tym polu Mozilla również dała ciała. Oficjalnych szablonów administracyjnych nie ma, są jakieś do ściągnięcia ale z czasów Firefoxa 2.x co przy obecnej wersji 5 może stwarzać problemy. Póki co zarządzanie Firefoxem zostawiam na kolejny wpis bo sprawa jest dosyć skomplikowana.

Wdrażanie Google Chrome w Active Directory

Dosyć niedawno przeglądarka ze stajni Google - Chrome została uaktualniona o wersję Enterprise i szablony administracyjne oraz paczkę instalacyjną w formacie msi.

W dzisiejszym wpisie przedstawię wdrożenie Google Chrome w domenie Active Directory przy użyciu GPO wraz z szablonami administracyjnymi.

Wymagania wstępne:

Kontroler domeny
Klient
Paczka msi Google Chrome do ściągnięcia http://www.google.com/chrome/eula.html?msi=true
Pobranie szablonów administracyjnych http://dl.google.com/dl/edgedl/chrome/policy/policy_templates.zip

Środowisko wdrożeniowe w moim przypadku to dwie maszyny wirtualne. Kontroler domeny oparty na Windows Server 2008 R2 oraz klient podłączony do domeny - Windows 7 Enterprise.

Poziom funkcjonalny domeny i lasu to Windows Server 2008 R2. Na kontrolerze domeny zainstalowałem dodatkowo usługę DHCP a jej klientem jest Windows 7.

Wdrożenie

Aby ułatwić wszystkim ewentualne testy zrobiłem krótkiego videocasta gdzie wszystko powinno być widoczne czarnona białym.

Jak sami widzieliście proces ten nie różni się zbytnio od dystrybucji innego oprogramowania.

Odnośnie samego Google Chrome to polecam zapoznać się z dobrym dokumentem opisującym krok po kroku instalację Chrome http://www.google.com/support/a/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=187202.

Podsumowanie roku 2010

Witam Was drodzy czytelnicy w podsumowaniu roku 2010.

Podsumowanie będzie składało się z dwóch części. Pierwsza częśc będzie dotyczyła rzeczy bardziej związanych z życiem osobistym a druga to podsumowanie blogowania.

Zacznijmy od życia osobistego.

Rok 2010 był rokiem w którym wydarzyło się bardzo dużo. Przede wszystkim 13 maja urodziła się moja kochana córeczka Emilia. Myślę, że drugie najważniejsze wydarzenie to zmiana pracy z IBM i rozpoczęcie nowej pracy w UPM.

Kolejne wydarzenia nie są może tak spektakularne ale wciąż są dla mnie ważne. Przede wszystkim mam na myśli ukończenie ścieżki MCSE +S oraz upgrade do 2008. Kolejne wydarzenie to przede wszystkim migracja bloga na nowy hosting.

Podsumowanie blogowania

Nie wiem czy wiece ale blog powstał już dosyć dawno temu a dokładnie 7.12.2006. Jak dla mnie jest to ogromny szmat czasu i przede wszystkim cieszę się, że po pierwsze blog żyje a po drugie, że blogowanie nie znudziło mi się. Od tego czasu kilkarotnie zmieniał swoją szatę graficzną i mam nadzieję, że aktualna jest przyjazna dla oka.

Teraz trochę liczb. Od 2006 roku napisałem 178 wpisów, na blogu występuje 16 kategorii i 102 tagi. Czytelnicy napisali 252 komentarzy a Akismet zapobiegł dodaniu 6434 spamowych komentarzy.

W roku 2010 blog miał 40256 odwiedzin, 57182 odsłon, 29974 unikalnych użytkowników a średni czas spędzony na blogu to 01:36 min.

Od bardzo dawna ludzie starają się upiększać swoje samochody, domy czy siebie samych. To samo tyczy się stron w Internecie. Sposobów na upiększenie / dodanie nowego uroku stronie internetowej jest bardzo dużo: ładne logo, niebanalny design, “bajery” w postaci elementów AJAXowych czy efekty Flash.

Często zapominaną kwestią w tworzeniu stron internetowych są czcionki użyte do prezentacji treści. Dosyć niedawno został zatwierdzony standard Web Open Font Format można o tym poczytać tutaj .

Ciekawe rozwiązanie wprowadził Google a jest to Google Font Api https://www.google.com/fonts - więcej można przeczytać na stronie.

Google Font Api pozwala na użycie 18 czcionek na swojej stronie www. Oto przykładowe czcionki:

Oczywiście w największej platformie blogowej jaką jest WordPress nie trzeba było długo czekać i pojawił się świetny plugin dzięki, któremu można użyć go na swoim blogu. Nazwa rozszerzenia to WP Google Fonts a adres do pobrania to http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-google-fonts/.

System nie wykrywa poprawnie pendrive – rozwiązanie problemu

W dniu dzisiejszym dostałem od kolegi na pendrive materiały do nauki. Nie byłoby w tym wydarzeniu nic szczególnego poza jednym małym faktem. Otóż kolega używa systemu firmy Apple Mac OS X i musiał sformatować mojego pendriva, który miał format plików NTFS do FAT.

Po szybkim formacie już w domu gdy przyszedłem po całkiem pracowitej niedzieli okazało się, że system nie rozpoznaje pendrive. Byłem bardzo zdziwiony bo takich problemów nie powinno być. Nie dbając zbytnio o materiały na pendrive chciałem go sformatować ale pojawił się pewien problem. Otóż podawany rozmiar przez Windowsa to 200MB co jest nieprawdą bo pendrive ma 16GB.

Na pierwszy rzut poszedł Windowsowy manager dysków - tutaj pierwsza porażka. Kolejnym krokiem była próba użycia diskpart. Niestety diskpart również nie poradził sobie z usunięciem partycji na pendrive. Mając na czarną godzinę zachowany obraz Ubuntu wrzuciłem go szybko na maszyne wirtualną i próbowałem naprawić błąd. Co prawda przy użyciu gparted udało mi się usunąć partycje jednak każda próba utworzenia nowej nie udawała się.

Byłem już trochę wkurzony bo przecież nie robiłem z pendrivem jakichś dziwnych czynności. Ale na szczęście udało się znaleźć rozwiązanie.

Rozwiązaniem problemu okazał się program HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool do ściągniecią możliwy np stąd.

Program jest bardzo prosty jednakże w 100% rozwiązuje problem.

Program ten bez żadnych ceregieli naprawił partycje na pendrive i dzięki temu dalej mogę się cieszyć swoim sprzętem.

Gdzie na narty w Czechach ?

Jak zapewne wiecie żyję sobie w Czechach już dobre pół roku. Nie byłbym sobą gdybym opuścił możliwość jazdy na nartach chociaż te kilka razy w roku. Jako, iż w Czechach można znaleźć wyciągi narciarskie chciałem się z Wami podzielić moimi “znaleziskami”.

Niestety dla narciarzy wokół Brna nie ma zbyt wielkich górek więc nie ma się co nastawiać na kilometrowe trasy narciarskie. Jednakże nie jest tak źle jak na początku myslałem i jakieś wyciągi w pobliżu Brna są.

Opisałem tylko pięć wyciągów narciarskich a to dlatego, że jeżeli spojrzycie na mapę czeskich wyciągów to zobaczycie iż cała reszta leży już w pobliżu granic z sąsiadami Czech.

Microsoft Office Web Apps czy warto czekać ?

Jakiś czas temu na blogu Mariusza Kędziory ukazał się wpis o Microsoft Office Web Apps.

Dzisiaj miałem przyjemność oglądać krótki webcast na blogu Mariusza i powiem szczerze, że jest na co czekać. Oczywiście komentarze na blogu Mariusza są również bardzo trafne i w większości chodzi o porównanie do największego rywala czyli Google ze swoim Google Docs.

Z mojej strony największą bolączką pakietu Google jest to, że prezentacje utworzone przy użyciu ich narzędzi nie wyglądają tak jak w Powerpoincie - raczej bliżej im do OpenOffice.

Zachęcam do obejrzenia filmiku Mariusza bądź demo w języku angielskim .

Gdy znajdujemy się już na drugim etapie wystawiania aukcji ustawiamy sobie edytor wizualny i uzupełniamy podstawowy opis przedmiotu.
W momencie gdy chcemy dodać już jakieś zdjęcie otwieramy stronę internetową http://imageshack.us/. Dla łatwiejszego dodawania zdjęć można pozmieniać sobie nazwy plików np.: od 1 do 5 tak aby przy wstawianiu plików było łatwiejsze rozpoznanie, który plik jest który.
Na stronie imageshack naciskamy przycisk Browse

a następnie wskazujemy zdjęcia do wysłania i naciskamy przycisk Open.
Po wybraniu zdjęć do wysłania na stronie powinne być widoczne pliki tak jak na zrzucie ekranu poniżej.
Jedyne co pozostaje zrobić to nacisnąć przycisk start upload i zdjęcia zostaną wysłane na serwer.
Po wysłaniu zdjęć na serwer powinniśmy uzyskać mniej więcej (raczej więcej 🙂) taki widok.
Teraz mamy kilka możliwych dróg dotarcia do bezpośrednich odnośników do zdjęć. Klikamy bezpośrednio na każde zdjęcie i kopiujemy odnośnik zlokalizowany w polu direct link
Jeżeli ponumerowaliśmy zdjęcia możemy kliknąć w pole Get links and Codes for All Images gdzie automatycznie zostaną zaznaczone wszystkie odnośniki.
Teraz najważniejszy moment to dodanie do aukcji allegro zdjęcia z serwisu. Kopiujemy odnośnik do pierwszego zdjęcia i wklejamy go w aukcji allegro poprzez naciśnięcie przycisku Wstaw Obrazek.
Następnie wklejamy uprzednio skopiowany odnośnik do zdjęcia z serwisu imageshack.
Następnie klikamy Wybierz i plik zostaje dodany w miejscu w którym umieszczony był kursor.
Kolejne pliki dodajemy w sposób identyczny, mamy możliwość ustawienia ich obok siebie, jeden pod drugim itd.

Od kroku 7-go pozwoliłem sobie wkleić kontynuację wpisu z poprzedniej części poradnika ponieważ na allegro nie zmieniło się nic w sposobie dodawania zdjęć. W najbliższych dniach postaram się zrobić videocast (nagrana prezentacja mojego pulpitu) na którym pokażę dodawanie zdjęć na allegro - w razie jakby były jakieś problemy.

W dzisiejszym wpisie pokażę w jaki sposób zablokować wyświetlanie stron www w Internet Explorerze.

Pierwsze pytanie, po co robić coś takiego? Otóż odpowiem na przykładzie firmy, w której pracuję. Posiadamy w firmie hurtownię danych, która używana jest do prezentacji szeroko pojętych danych. Niestety, hurtownia ta działa w oparciu o Internet Explorera i Office Web Components, które nie zadziałają pod inną przeglądarką (albo jeszcze o tym nie wiem). Jak wszyscy wiemy bezpieczniej jest używać alternatywnych przeglądarek: jest ich do wyboru kilka - każdy używa to co lubi.

Przechodząc do sedna przedstawię w jaki sposób zrealizowałem blokadę.

Wchodzimy w ustawienia GPO Konfiguracja użytkownika Ustawienia systemu Windows Konserwacja programu Internet Explorer Połączenie Ustawienia serwera proxy i zaznaczamy:

Włącz ustawienia serwera proxy
Użyj tego samego serwera proxy dla wszystkich adresów
Nie używaj serwera proxy dla adresów lokalnych (intranetowych)
Wprowadzamy następujący adres proxy 127.0.0.1

Następnie wchodzimy do Adresy URL Ważne adresy URL Adres URL strony głównej i ustawiamy stronę intranetową, która będzie stroną startową. Następnie w Konfiguracja użytkownika Ustawienia systemu Windows Szablony administracyjne Składniki systemu Windows Internet Explorer Wyłącz zmienianie ustawień strony głównej ustawiamy włączone i dla pewności zmieniamy stronę główną na stronę w intranecie.

W moim przypadku pewnie nie będzie z tym problemu, bo wszystkie inne strony użytkownik może przeglądać w dowolnej innej zainstalowanej w systemie przeglądarce.

Jak dodać wiele zdjęć do aukcji na allegro ? Krótki poradnik

Wielu z nas korzysta z portalu aukcyjnego allegro.pl. Oferowane przez allegro narzędzia sprawdzają się w większości zastosowań użytkowników. Co jednak gdy do wystawienia aukcji potrzebujemy dodać wiekszą ilośc zdjęć niż mamy dostępne w standardzie na allegro? Otóż sprawa jest bardzo prosta - wystarczy do aukcji dodać zdjęcia umieszczone w jakimś serwisie oferującym umieszczanie plików graficznych.

Zabieramy się do dzieła!

Logujemy się do allegro i normalnie tak jak w przypadku wystawiania każdej innej aukcji klikam - tego procesu opisywał nie będę. Skoro czytasz ten teks to zakładam, że wiesz jak wystawić aukcję na allegro.
Gdy znajdujemy się już na drugim etapie wystawiania aukcji ustawiamy sobie edytor wizualny i uzupełniamy podstawowy opis przedmiotu.
W momencie gdy chcemy dodać już jakieś zdjęcie otwieramy stronę internetową http://imageshack.us/.
Następnie posiadając wcześniej przygotowane zdjęcia dodajemy je do serwisu imageshack. Zdjęcia dodaje się bardzo prosto poprzez kliknięcie Browse i zaznaczenie plików, które chcemy dodać. W moim przypadku był to jeden plik graficzny ale do testów dodałem kilka innych plików tak aby zobaczyć jak proste jest dodanie wielu plików.
Następnie w serwisie widzimy sumaryczną ilość plików i ich rozmiar.
Aby zakończyć proces dodania plików na serwer naciskamy przycisk start upload.
Konieczna jest tutaj jeszcze jedna uwaga z mojej strony. W serwisie mamy możliwość automatycznej zmiany wymiarów plików. Jeżeli ta opcja jest przez nas pożądana to zaznaczamy ją wybierając odpowiedni wybrany przez nas rozmiar plików.
Następnie po naciśnięciu przycisku start upload na serwer wysyłane są nasze pliki. W zależności od szybkości łącza internetowego może to potrwać od kilku do kilkunastu minut. Po wysłaniu serwis imageshack tworzy galerię z naszych plików. Do naszych celów galeria nie jest potrzebna, ale w przypadku wykorzystania serwisu do innych celów jak najbardziej może się przydać. Tak wygląda wysłana galeria.
Dla naszych celów wystawienia aukcji najważniejszy jest przycisk Get Direct URLs co oznacza ni mniej ni więcej wyświetlenie bezpośrednich odnośników do zdjęć w serwisie. Po naciśnięciu przycisku naszym oczom ukazuje się spis bezpośrednich odnośników do zdjęć, które wykorzystamy do aukcji allegro.
Dla naszej wygody możemy w kolejnym oknie przeglądarki otworzyć sobie z wcześniejszego punktu naszą galerię gdzie odnośniki odpowiadają kolejności w galerii.
Teraz najważniejszy moment to dodanie do aukcji allegro zdjęcia z serwisu. Kopiujemy odnośnik do pierwszego zdjęcia i wklejamy go w aukcji allegro poprzez naciśnięcie przycisku Wstaw Obrazek

a następnie wklejamy uprzednio skopiowany odnośnik do zdjęcia z serwisu imageshack.
Następnie klikamy Wybierz i plik zostaje dodany w miejscu w którym umieszczony był kursor.
Kolejne pliki dodajemy w sposób identyczny, mamy możliwość ustawienia ich obok siebie, jeden pod drugim itd. Stosujemy tu dostępne narzędzia podobne do tych, które znajdują się w edytorach tekstu (Wyrównaj tekst do lewej, do środka ..). Należy jednak pamiętać, że w przypadku gdy plik ma większą rozdzielczość konieczna będzie zmiana jego rozmiaru. Dokonujemy tego podobnie jak w edytorze tekstu Word czy jakimkolwiek innym programie graficznym poprzez złapanie za dowolny z rogów zdjęcia i przesuwanie go w lewo (gdy chcemy plik zmniejszyć) lub w prawo (gdy chcemy plik zwiększyć).

I to tyle ! W ten sposób mamy możliwość dodania dowolnej liczby zdjęć na allegro nie będąc ograniczonym standardową ilością pięciu czy sześciu zdjęć. W razie jakichkolwiek pytań proszę o kontakt poprzez maila czy komentarze.

Specjalnie nie poruszyłem tematu html i edytora html w aukcjach celem maksymalnego uproszczenia procesu dodawania zdjęć. Jeżeli zajdzie taka potrzeba w kolejnym wpisie przedstawie bardziej zaawansowane opcje.

Allegro – czyli historia pewnego negatywa

Dzisiejszy wpis jest trochę nietypowy bo powinienem napisać coś o ślubie, który odbył się w sobotę(na pewno będzie wpis ale dopiero jak dostaniemy zdjęcia (co planowane jest na czwartek)).

Przechodząc do sedna sprawy opiszę jak przebiegała akcja.

Aukcja była ustawiona na 7 dni, zakończyła się w poniedziałek 10 marca o godzinie 20:25:12. Najwyższą ofertę kupna zalicytował użytkownik o nicku dasiekmoneta i było to 26,01 zł + koszty wysyłki (8zł).

W allegro mam ustawioną automatyczną wiadomość dla kupującego odnośnie numeru konta do wpłaty za przedmiot.

Jak widać na załączonym zrzucie ekranu przypomnienie o wpłacie na konto zostało wysłane 2008-03-19 o godzinie 08:14:47.

Wciąż czekałem na wpłatę na konto od allegrowicza jednak niedoczekałem się jej do wtorku 1 kwietnia 2008. Mimo wysyłania maili do allegrowicza, nawet kontaktu telefonicznego na mój koszt nie było żadnego oddzewu (czytaj przelewu na konto, bo oddzew był jedynie na telefon - ktoś odebrał i powiedział, że miał zepsuty komputer i nie mógł sprawdzić poczty i po moim telefonie zaraz pójdzie na pocztę i wpłaci pieniądze). Oczywiście tak się nie stało i wkurzony już całą sytuacją wystawiłem następujący komentarz.

Mój pierwszy wystawiony negatyw - czekam na wpłatę 20 dni (od 10.03.2008), allegrowicz niepoważny. Brak jakiegokolwiek kontaktu, po 2 tygodniach poinformował mnie, że miał uszkodzony komputer! NIE POLECAM - ALLEGRO to nie zabawa dla dzieci!_

Byłem świadomy tego, że mogę dostać negatywa zwrotnego bo tak się po prostu sprawy na allegro mają ale treść tego komentarza zamurowała mnie. Oto on:

Oszust, naciągacz, drobny wałkarz. Towar nie zgodny z opisem zamiast sukienki rozmiar 36 w paczce był ciuszek dla lalki. Prokurator się nim zajmie. Przestrzegam wszystkich kupujących Jeszcze miał czelność wystawić mi komentarz jako pierwszy.

Normalnie kipiałem ze złości na debilizm i chamstwo tego kogoś(nie boję się nazwać tak osoby, która oczernia moją osobę ww. komentarzem). Odczekałem chwile tak aby ochłonąć z odpisywaniem na komentarz (a zrobię to dokładnie za kilka chwil po skończeniu wpisu tak aby cała sytuacja była widoczna dla innych - bo jak wiemy aukcje na allegro po jakimś czasie nie są już widoczne).

Na dowód chamstwa, bezczelności i arogancji allegrowicza przedstawię maila, którego otrzymałem od allegrowicza przez pocztę allegro:

Treść tego maila rozśmieszyła mnie, bo allegrowicz żądał pieniędzy za towar, który nigdy do niego nie został wysłany ponieważ po prostu wpłata nigdy nie dotarła na moje konto. Co oczywiście jest jawną próbą wyłudzenia pieniędzy ode mnie.

Na dowód swojej niewinności przedstawiam zestawienie ze swojego konta w banku Inteligo w formacie pdf (same uznania na konto od 03.10.2008 do 02.04.2008).

Spokojnie po kilku dniach końcem kwietnia (już nie pamiętam dokładnie kiedy pozwoliłem zadzwonić sobie do użytkownika dasiekmoneta ponownie tak aby wyjaśnić oszczerstwa.

Przedstawiłem się, odebrał Pan Jan Wnuczyński rzekomy właściciel konta na allegro. Wyjaśniłem o co chodzi(negatyw, próba wyłudzenia pieniędzy ode mnie, kłamstwa i oszczerstwa) i Pan Jan powiedział, że on nie wie o co chodzi bo to jego córka bądź synowa (już nie pamiętam dokładnie) używa tego konta. Powiedział, że skontaktuje się aby wyjaśnić całą sprawę i zadzwonią do mnie. Spokojnie czekałem sobie cały dzień, aż nagle wieczorem ktoś puścił mi dzwonka na komórkę. Oczywiście oddzwoniłem i okazało się, że to w sprawie allegro. Jakaś młoda Pani mówi, że ona nie zajmuje się tym kontem na allegro tylko ktoś inny i że do mnie zadzwoni.

Rzeczywiście po kilku minutach oddzwonił właściwy użytkownik konta. Koleś(pozwolę go sobie tak nazwać bo zjadłem przez niego strasznie dużo nerwów) powiedział, że on towar dostał, że jest to jakaś sukienka na szmacianą lalkę i żąda zwrotu pieniędzy bo pójdzie do prokoratora.

Z racji, że w rodzinie mam 3 prawników 😀 wiedziałem, że tak błachą sprawę napewno najpierw przejełaby Policja a później ewentualnie prokuratura więc tylko w duchu się uśmiechałem. Koleś powiedział, że on jest super sprzedawcą na innym koncie na allegro (pewnie na jebaju albo świstaku (no offence)) i że on zasady allegro dokładnie zna i wie o co chodzi. Tłumaczę tumanowi - mam przed sobą sukienkę w lewej ręcę to jak mogłeś ją dostać. On w pewnym momencie (pewnie poniesiony nerwami) powiedział, żebym mu wysłał jeszcze raz tą sukienkę za pobraniem to zapłaci(oczywiście nie chodziło mi o same pieniądzę bo to śmieszna kwota a o zasadę. Bo jakby napisał ktoś, że nie ma kasy, że to nieprzemyślany zakup i że zwróci prowizję to nie byłoby problemu, nie byłoby negatywów i nerwów).

Ja mówię mu że sukienka mnie nie obchodzi tylko ma wycofać swój negatywny komentarz a jak nie to idę na Policję i zgłaszam próbę wymuszenia pieniędzy. Koleś był hardy i nie chciał wycofać komentarza, a po chwili powiedział, że jak ja pierwszy wycofam negatywa to on też wycofa. Ja stałem twardo na tym, że nie i koniec - ja jestem uczciwy i nic złego nie zrobiłem. Nic się nie udało ustalić więc sie rozłączyliśmy.

Po chwili zadzwoniła zapewne żona Pana Jana Wnuczyńskiego z pytaniem czy ktoś już dzwonił - odpowiedziałem zgodnie z prawdą, że oczywiście tak dzwonił ale nic nie udało się ustalić. Powiedziałem Pani, że jeżeli do poniedziałku nie będzię cofnięty komentarz negatywny to idę zgłosić na Policję próbę wyłudzenia pieniędzy. Pani już była chyba lekko wkurwiona na dzieci (domyślam się tylko) i powiedziała, że ona jeszcze zadzwoni i postara się porozmawiać.

Było chyba z 15 minut przerwy bo zadzwonił koleś i powiedział, że jednak anuluje komentarz ale żebym nie zgłaszał tego na Policję. Ja chciałem gościa podkurwić i powiedziałem, że zastanowię się bo idę dzieci położyć spać 😉

Po kilku chwilach przyszedł mail z prośbą o unieważnienie komentarzy.

Dzisiaj udało pożyczyć mi się z pracy mały a zarazem bardzo fajny skaner Plustek Optic Slim 2400. Szybko zainstalowałem go i pasowało coś poskanować. Jako, że w ostatnią niedzielę wybierałem zdjęcia do naszego weselnego filmu to miałem materiału do skanowania aż nadto.

Oto wynik mojej godzinnej pracy ze skanerem 🙂

Moje urodziny z którymi wiąże się śmieszna historia. Otóż mój młodszy brat Piotr również chciał mieć urodziny i tort więc po zdmuchnięciu przeze mnie świeczek najzwyczajniej w świecie rodzice zdjęli 2 świeczki i brat miał również urodziny :) Ach rodzice to zawsze mają świetne pomysły. A tort to sławny Ambasador mojej mamy, z bratem zawsze najpierw wyjadaliśmy galaretkę i ananasy.
